UTMB - Galveston Spring 09
hey raven. i decided to go to UTHSC San Antonio. it was my first choice all this time b/c their fast track is stretched out over 4 semesters vs utmb's 3 semesters. 20 hours per semester sounded scary. but i'm sure that there are a lot of successful nurses who did it.

about the clinical schedule, aren't we assigned to them randomly by the school?

UTMB - Galveston Spring 09
hi raven. sorry it took so long to reply. it looks as if you're under the impression that i am currently a nursing student at utmb. i actually was an applicant just like you so i don't think that i am going to be much help. instead of attending utmb this spring, i decided to attend a different nursing school. good luck.

yea i know. i guess that's what orientation is for. i guess i'm not going to go to the heart to heart thing since it sounds like it's geared more towards your family and friends (i.e. your interpersonal support system). i would think that the info covered is going to be repeated in orientation anyway. please correct me if i'm wrong.

wow i wish i got the chicken pox as a kid b/c the titer sounds cheaper. i'm getting the 2 shots for around $125 each.

4.0 gpa a myth?
regarding the comment on only accepting blond hair blue eye women, so how will this happen? also, please keep in mind that there is a difference between "minimum gpa" and "average gpa". the first one means that you will be disqualified from admissions if you do not meet the gpa requirement. second one means that there are gpas above and below the average. for example, if average gpa is 3.6, then theoretically they should have some 3.2's to "counter" those 4.0's.

4.0 gpa a myth?
For those who are applying, I just wanted to say that I think the 4.0 gpa requirement is a myth. I think some counselors say that to get students to work harder. Other students may say that to discourage their competition. I understand that nursing school admissions is competitive so the higher the better. There are people who get into a nursing program without a perfect gpa.

applying to nursing school
i understand that everyone is going to have a different opinion, but i would say go for it b/c i don't know how much your gpa would change w/33 hrs and then later you're up to 47 hrs. i would suggest calculating your gpa based on grades that you will hypothetically make this semester. for example, if you're going to make straight A's this semester, then calculate your new gpa w/all A's. if the difference is not that much then definitely go ahead and apply. as far as which nursing schools i would recommend, i think that they're all pretty decent. check out their websites to see their requirements, deadlines, etc. ask around for their average gpa's. i don't know what the consensus on average gpa is.

what are the reasons why finding a job is hard?

congrats, lily. :balloons: rfs, i wouldn't give up hope now. utmb and twu still have not sent decisions letters yet so maybe someone who is currently holding an accelerated spot will give it up when they hear from other schools. maybe you will get an offer at the last minute, but let's hope you hear sooner than that. :icon_hug: before i took my test, someone talked to accelerated candidates on how acceptance into the accelerated worked. they said that they take everyone with a bachelor's, rank them, top 20 go into accelerated, the rest are the waiting list. so lily, maybe you were number 20-something so you did not have to wait long.

Purple,maybe even Blue
i agree with you, hopeful. you cannot pay me enough to be president of a country. i would go nuts from the stress and having to deal with people from all over the world. but everybody is different. just like how you cannot pay some people to be nurses

Purple,maybe even Blue
i heard that austin is pretty much always blue. isn't it ironic that it is the capital of a red state? I35 south for 3-4 hrs
