Hello friends!

I'm creating this as a communication board for new students/applicants to talk on about:

  • Current GPA -- science & overall
  • Requirements needed to apply
  • HESI test requirements
  • Applications -- status or general info
  • Acceptance!

A quick intro-- My name is Maira and I've followed previous threads on here and I love how much information you can get from it! (I followed and read ALL of UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016)

I'm applying at UThealth for the nursing pacesetter program for Spring 2017. The application is due by Aug. 15 and I haven't submitted it yet because I haven't taken the HESI! I'm getting anxious about taking it, have any of y'all taken yours yet?!

Also, I've been meaning to stop by the school and see if my pre-reqs meet their requirements. I'm a bit confused on whether they will average 2 scores of the same class or not. For instance, a long time ago I took a English course and got a F (I was careless and young) and now I retook it and got a A. Another thing that I've been wondering about is what exactly the 5 hours of "electives" are-- will they accept a math class for it?

Well I look forward to meeting all of you!!!! Good luck!!!! :inlove:

I got that number directly from the website. I hope it works for you!

That's the number I used, and it worked perfectly.

Specializes in IMCU/PCU.

I just tried to register to re-take the HESI Version 2 (since I took Version 1 last week) and Evolve informed me that UTHouston has closed their testing registrations for this application period.

If I re-take it at Lonestar and then send a transcript, will they consider the latest one? Has anyone been in/ heard of a similar situation?

They only allow you to take the Hesi using their registration code up to a certain date per app period. Take the test at Lone Star and have the transcript sent over UT before the deadline, they will use your most recent score.

I would probably try to retake the HESI if you are able to study for it and take it before the deadline. On their website, it states that a minimum of 75-80% is recommended in each section of the test. If it was me, I would be worried about the Vocal score.

Thank you! Yes I saw that each section recommended score is at least a 75%! I will retake it by the end of the month! Even if we take it the day before the app is due, our scores will be automatically sent since everything is electronic right?

yes! As long as you use UT's code, you should be good to go. Good luck!

Ok well I am officially giving up on attending nursing school. I have attempted the Hesi three times and failed the A&P section every single time. I am convinced that me being a nurse is clearly not in God's plan.

@FutureRNMelanie - Can I ask what you got this time? Have you tried taking the TEAS exam? I wouldn't just give up. I know it is frustrating but there are other ways to do this. Have you thought about being an LVN then transferring to an RN that way? For my school, you just need a 70 on each section to apply for the LVN program.

This time I scored lower than I did the second time I took the test:

A&P-48

Vocab-86

Grammar-92

Reading-86

Math-90

CT-840

I've tried taking the teas as well and didn't score high enough. I would consider the LVN option but I can't even score high enough for that program either. I keep making the mistake of trying to study for this exam while taking classes.

Last time you made a 64 on the Anatomy portion. Were the questions somewhat difficult this time around? And if I were you I would dedicate weekends to studying for just the HESI. I just feel like you shouldn't give up just yet. Take your time on the A&P portion and take a breather on each question. Repeat the question to yourself. I wish you the best of luck! God always has a plan for your future, so maybe going to the RN way is not the way to do it. Maybe aiming for the LVN and then RN is the way to go!
