Cardiac Step down interviewing for Cath Lab
Hello, I am a fairly new nurse. I have a year of Stepdown/PCU experience. I had the opportunity to take one of my patients down to cath lab and stay with them through their procedure basically shadowing the cath lab nurse. Since then, all I want to do is become a cath lab nurse. I know most (if not all) places want ICU experience, but by some miracle I landed a cath lab interview with a very prestigious hospital. I am extremely nervous as the recruiter was very honest when she said they prefer cath lab experience or ICU experience. I have no desire to continue in PCU or to go to ICU. My question is, has anyone made the transition from PCU/stepdown to CCL, seen it done, is it possible? I am a quick learner and love a fast paced environment, I am reliable, always on time, bilingual and that's about all I have going for me.... Any tips or suggestions? TIA!

So this last cohort I interviewed for (but didn't make it) they told us that 95% of all residency spots are for TMC. The satellite hospitals don't have a residency program so the people that get selected for those positions have to travel to the med center for training and most satellite hospitals don't like that. So I was told that a lot of times they don't take GNs for that reason. Honestly I think that's the reason why I didn't get an offer, because my preferred location wasn't the Med Center.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. That it could be illegal to practice under my license, I'm sure I would be held to the legal scope of a nurse. I just want an open door, I am honestly tired of waiting. I don't necesarily need to work, but I don't want to lose my skills and knowledge sitting here doing nothing. It's been almost 5 months since graduation.

Yes, out of those three. I am not sure about the rest of the GN programs. Most places do say that you qualify for a raise after your first year. For HCA, the pay is for 2 years. They make you sign a 2 year contract with them, also, if you live more than 45 minutes away from the hospital you want to work at, they won't hire you.

I am a May graduate, I have interviewed for HCA and St Luke's already, these numbers came from the recruiters there. My friend started at MH in July and that's her pay. Like I said above, St Luke's pays a differential of $4/hr if in the med center. So that would add up to $35.50 ish. Maybe that's what the person you spoke to was referring to.

Is anyone here a May graduate applying for a second (or ever third) time? I took the NCLEX right away and have been licensed since June. I have a 3.3 GPA. Got as far as an interview with St Luke's but ZERO offers! I am getting so discouraged! Only 5 people out of my entire graduating class have jobs right now.
