Hello friends!

I'm creating this as a communication board for new students/applicants to talk on about:

  • Current GPA -- science & overall
  • Requirements needed to apply
  • HESI test requirements
  • Applications -- status or general info
  • Acceptance!

A quick intro-- My name is Maira and I've followed previous threads on here and I love how much information you can get from it! (I followed and read ALL of UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016)

I'm applying at UThealth for the nursing pacesetter program for Spring 2017. The application is due by Aug. 15 and I haven't submitted it yet because I haven't taken the HESI! I'm getting anxious about taking it, have any of y'all taken yours yet?!

Also, I've been meaning to stop by the school and see if my pre-reqs meet their requirements. I'm a bit confused on whether they will average 2 scores of the same class or not. For instance, a long time ago I took a English course and got a F (I was careless and young) and now I retook it and got a A. Another thing that I've been wondering about is what exactly the 5 hours of "electives" are-- will they accept a math class for it?

Well I look forward to meeting all of you!!!! Good luck!!!! :inlove:

Hey everyone!! I just got accepted to the summer 2017 program. I don't know anyone already in the program, and feel so lost. I am hoping to get to know some of my seniors and get some heads up on what to expect or what to buy for the program (ie. textbooks, supplies, etc). Is buying older editions of textbooks fine?

I am a current fall applicant, but I was wondering what the earliest date that you guys started hearing back about acceptances/wait list/denials?

Hi guys! I know that working while in the program is discouraged because the program is so fast-paced, but have any of you or know someone who has been able to keep a P/T job while in the program? I'll be applying for Fall of 2018 and have 2 schools to consider, but I don't have luxury of not working.

Hey guys

I applied for Uthsc bsn pacesetter nursing program for the spring of 2018. I took my Hesi A2 exam on May 30, 2017 and my scores are as follows:

Anatomy & Physiology 80

Vocabulary & General Knowlegde 92

Reading Comprehension 88

Grammar 92

Math 96

Overall Comprehensive score 89.6

I have about 63-68 total prerequisite hours. I also have my Associates in Science. My GPA is a 3.06 and my science GPA is a 3.1. I started volunteering at a hospital in April. I say all of this to say that I've tried my hardest to get to where I am today and I feel like I have a decent shot of getting in because of my hesi scores. However most of the previous commentators have much higher GPAs then I and I just want to know if anyone else is in the same boat.

It doesn't really matter how high your GPA is or your hesi score is, they have no set way of how they select their candidate's for the program, I have 4.0 and 93 on Hesi and previous B.s from U of H and have been denied twice.... They seem to do like a lottery system, luck of the draw. Everyone has the same chance as others as long as you meet requirements. So just cross your fingers and hope the computer system pools your name í ½í±í ¾í´ž

Hey!

I am Noshin. Just joined allnurses forum. I am planning to apply to ut for Fall 2018. If you don't mind me asking, did you get in to UT?

Hello Noshin, I've applied for three terms and didn't get accepted. I am now waiting for a decision for spring 2018.

I am also applying for the Spring 2017 term.

My stats are:

Cumulative GPA: 3.5 ish ( I have been to 2 different schools: got a 3.014 the first time around in 88-91--and I have a 4.0 this time around. Have approximately the same amount of hours at each one. )

PreReq GPA: 3.88 ( still have to take Statistics(summer) and Philosophy (taking intro to Ethics in Fall)

Science GPA: 4.0 (all complete, but may have to retake chemistry due to it being so old, and Im not sure if it is the right course)

Hesi: 94.8 total

Reading: 86

A&P: 92

Math: 96

Vocal: 100

Grammar: 100

Critical Thinking: 910

I submitted my application Sunday. Now the LONG wait starts......

I am also applying to HCC ADN program since it also accepts the HESI.

I am thinking of taking the TEAS V so I can apply to Wharton Jr College ADN and TWU.

My first choice is UTH since it is a 15 month program.

Where did you take your hesi exam?

Hello! I plan on retaking the HESI to improve my vocab score (86). I see that you retook it and scored pretty high. Do you have any advice on what i can use to improve my score? I have used pocket app, hesi assessment book, and a few quizlet accounts but only a few popped up on the test. Can you suggest any quizlet accounts or tips that helped you?

I took it under Lone Star community college, I was too afraid to test under UT's code. I'm not even attempting the TEAS test, I have heard it's way too hard, more than the HESI.

Due to my low score on Math, I can't apply anywhere else until I pass that section of the test. I can only go to school in Houston, I'm a mother of 3 active kids! And I'm also working at a dental office while attending school. I'm completely done with my BSN prerequisites, everything is done, I even took pharmacology for nursing and my GPA is really high.

I'm definitely going to study harder for the Math portion, keep reviewing and practicing until I can do a good time on the Math section, that was my biggest problem during the test and I ran out of time, I had to guess the last questions.

I'm thankful regardless, I think I actually have a shot at this, I just need to keep studying. I did really good in the other sections. I was heartbroken but I learned my lesson.
