Hello friends!

I'm creating this as a communication board for new students/applicants to talk on about:

  • Current GPA -- science & overall
  • Requirements needed to apply
  • HESI test requirements
  • Applications -- status or general info
  • Acceptance!

A quick intro-- My name is Maira and I've followed previous threads on here and I love how much information you can get from it! (I followed and read ALL of UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016)

I'm applying at UThealth for the nursing pacesetter program for Spring 2017. The application is due by Aug. 15 and I haven't submitted it yet because I haven't taken the HESI! I'm getting anxious about taking it, have any of y'all taken yours yet?!

Also, I've been meaning to stop by the school and see if my pre-reqs meet their requirements. I'm a bit confused on whether they will average 2 scores of the same class or not. For instance, a long time ago I took a English course and got a F (I was careless and young) and now I retook it and got a A. Another thing that I've been wondering about is what exactly the 5 hours of "electives" are-- will they accept a math class for it?

Well I look forward to meeting all of you!!!! Good luck!!!! :inlove:

Hi Everyone!

I just took the Hesi and didn't do as well as I wanted on the a&p section. I was debating retaking it since they moved the deadline to Sept. 1, but didn't know if version 2 would be a lot harder and didn't want to risk bringing my other scores down or making a worse anatomy score, since UTHSC takes your most recent score. What do y'all think? Has anyone taken the second version? It is harder?

Overall: 92%

Math: 100%

Reading: 94%

Grammar: 94%

Vocab: 92%

Anatomy: 80%

Critical reading: 870

Overall gpa: 3.5 (3.6 after summer 2 classes added)

Nursing prereqs: 3.6

Science gpa: 4.0

I saw that to be competitive, I would need an 85% on each section, so the anatomy really worries me. I also figured maybe I could take the second version of the Hesi at Lonestar, that way if my scores are worse, I just wouldn't send it to UTHealth, since it wouldn't be automatically sent, like my first Hesi.

Do they look at each section or just the overall?

Do they look at each section or just the overall?

This is straight from an email I recieved from them.

The review process includes a careful review of all documents required including your transcripts and HESI scores. Each component of your application is reviewed including your overall cumulative GPA, HESI scores (with special emphasis on scores in Anatomy and Physiology, and grades earned in sciences and the required prerequisites.

So basically everything is considered. Although I've read on numerous occasions from this forum that they might pick "randomly." I don't know why they would do that though...

Hello everyone,

So i sent my transcripts a month ago but they still appear in my to do list. Does anybody now if it usually takes them that long to process them?

Hello everyone,

So i sent my transcripts a month ago but they still appear in my to do list. Does anybody now if it usually takes them that long to process them?

Do you have classes in progress? To my understanding, transcripts will not be removed from the to-do list unless you have completed all prerequisites. Some people were accepted and still had transcripts on their to-do list.

If you've already completed all pre-reqs, I would call & check before the deadline just to be sure!

Thanks for your response AHawkins! Yes, I still have two classes in progress that I will be taking this semester, so maybe that's the problem. I will email them just to make sure.

My transcripts are still showing on my to-do list, but the hesi and tsi requirements have dropped off. I will be emailing them again next week to check on the status of my first transcript. It should be complete, I haven't taken a class with that school since 1992 :)

I also have to remember to send an updated transcript for HCC as soon as the grade posts from the Stats class I just finished today. That will bring my GPA up a little bit! That leaves me with just my Philosophy class (actually Ethics) to complete this fall.

The funny thing about this is that I was just working towards my requirements for an ADN program, but kept taking other classes as I took one science per semester. Somehow I looked up and wow! I have my BSN pre-req's also....so now my focus has changed!!!!

Hi Everyone,

I'm going to apply for Fall 2017 and have been trying to gain as much knowledge about the program as possible through these forums.

I've worked in healthcare for about 10 years (as an MA and various other clinical aspects), but about a year ago decided I needed to complete my BSN.

Right now I'm attending Lee College and my overall GPA is 3.7. I am taking A&P I in the Fall, then II in the Spring and am determined to get A's!

The questions I have are these:

Should I wait until completing AP II to do the HESI? Or go ahead after I've completed I?

Will be doing chem/micro in summer- would any of you all recommend I do one of these with AP II instead?

The rest of my classes are easier ones...electives and history, (taking nutrition, AP I & history for fall).

Does anyone know what counts as electives? I have a medical math class that I took- would this qualify? Since I cannot actually start my application online (still too early), I'm having difficulty knowing what to take.

Any insight or recommendations are appreciated! Good luck to all of you trying for Spring!

Hey NLSteward81! I'll try to answer your questions... I took the HESI before I took A&P II and got a 100. I did try to know the most important information about each body system before I took the exam though. I did this by watching Anatomy GMC lectures on YouTube. Honestly, the questions are so randomly chosen for the A&P section, it's hard to prepare for. If you can wait & take the HESI after A&P II, then I'd say do that. Better safe than sorry!

As as far as your scheduling, it's all personal preference. I just finished A&P II in a 5 week summer session, & it was brutal. I was in class 5 hours everyday & had to cut back on work hours to get it done with a good grade. I recommend taking easier classes during the summer! I haven't had Chem or Micro yet, so I'm not sure about these.

Usually electives are any classes that don't count towards your Science/ Pre-req GPA, so it should count!

Does anyone know if you are able to retake the HESI within a week apart from each other? I am trying to plan on when exactly to take the HESI before the deadline for UT. Please HELP!

SO, I was just informed that someone from the school, was on my social media page (LinkedIn) last week. I'm wondering if that means we will start hearing things sooner rather than later???

How did you find that out? I guess I should check out my LinkedIn page I started to set up awhile ago but never finished....
