Hello friends!

I'm creating this as a communication board for new students/applicants to talk on about:

  • Current GPA -- science & overall
  • Requirements needed to apply
  • HESI test requirements
  • Applications -- status or general info
  • Acceptance!

A quick intro-- My name is Maira and I've followed previous threads on here and I love how much information you can get from it! (I followed and read ALL of UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016)

I'm applying at UThealth for the nursing pacesetter program for Spring 2017. The application is due by Aug. 15 and I haven't submitted it yet because I haven't taken the HESI! I'm getting anxious about taking it, have any of y'all taken yours yet?!

Also, I've been meaning to stop by the school and see if my pre-reqs meet their requirements. I'm a bit confused on whether they will average 2 scores of the same class or not. For instance, a long time ago I took a English course and got a F (I was careless and young) and now I retook it and got a A. Another thing that I've been wondering about is what exactly the 5 hours of "electives" are-- will they accept a math class for it?

Well I look forward to meeting all of you!!!! Good luck!!!! :inlove:

The questions were actually a lot easier, I just couldn't remember what I studied. It's obvious I will have to dedicate more time to studying for the A&P section. Thank you so much for your encouraging words! I will revisit the idea of studying for the test after I finish the fall semester.

Specializes in IMCU/PCU.

I am so sorry, I know they feeling.

I dont know if you saw my post about failing a&p last week. I have taken the HESI before (2 years ago) and got a 92 overall 90 in A&P.

The questions this second time were just simply EVIL.

I re-took it today for the third time (second time this application period) and got a better grade, but still not what I was expecting. With my GPA being on the lower side, I needed an AMAZING HESI score and I did NOT get that.

Here are my stats, I am very aware that my chances are pretty low. I am putting in God's hands. Let the wait time begin. (this is my second time applying).

Overall GPA: 3.2

Science GPA: 3.0

HESI Overall - 93.6%

R. Comprehension- 94%

Grammar - 96%

Vocab - 94%

A&P - 84%

Math - 100%

CT: 880

@amch - I believe anything above a 90 overall score is awesome! Great job!! I am not sure when I want to take the Hesi. If we need to retake would I still have time if I take the first one this month?

I think your scores are awesome, you shouldn't have any problems getting accepted into the program!

@amch Those are very good scores!

I don't think anyone really knows what they are looking for when choosing who gets in. All we can do is try to patiently wait and hope and pray that we get in!

I am nervous about this and I think I am driving my family AND my co-workers crazy!!!

@FUTURERNMelanie Did you use the remediation material on HESI site from your first two exams?

@FUTURERNMelanie Did you use the remediation material on HESI site from your first two exams?

Yes, I just didn't review it thoroughly. I need to spend more time studying and actually memorize and understand the material

Hey everyone. This is my third time applying to UTH. I applied for Spring and Summer 2016 and my application was denied on both accounts. In these past months, I've managed to increase my overall GPA by retaking a few courses and actually just retook the HESI less than an hour ago. I will be submitting my Spring 2017 application today. This are my current stats (and prior scores):

Overall GPA- 3.0 (from a 2.82)

Nursing Prereqs GPA- 3.7 (from a 3.5)

Science GPA- 4.0

HESI

Cumulative- 93.2% (decrease from a 94.4%)

Reading Comp- 90.0% (same)

Grammar- 92.0% (same)

Vocabulary- 96.0% (decrease from 100.0%)

Math- 96.0% (decrease from 98.0%)

A&P- 92.0% (same)

Critical Thinking-84.0% (increase from 75.0%)

Disappointed that some of my scores decreased but happy with the increase in my CT score. I found that studying the NCLEX practice book helps. Good luck everyone!

Hello,

why do you think you keep on getting denied?

you have competitive scores!

Hearing that you got denied twice before with those scores scare me a little bit.

The only thing I see that could have caused it was your cumulative GPA or your critical thinking hesi score....

but now you have increased both of those (along with your prereq GPA) so your chances should be better!

I think UT picks students randomly regardless of their gpas and hesi scores.

i am applying for 2017 spring.

my hesi score: 89%.

overall gpa 3.54

sience gpa 3.7.

I have medical experience and I am a veteran.

I have seen people getting denied with 3.9 and 4.0 gpas, which it sucks.

you can be book-smart, but when is about hands on, it's a totally different story!

wish you all the best, not luck! Luck is just by chance and requires no effort!

I really wonder what all goes into their decision. I wonder if the number of times you take the Hesi counts? of if you repeat any classes to get a better grade? or if you go to a community college versus a university? or how many of the pre-reqs you have completed at the time of application(how many left to take between application and start of program)?

I have only taken the Hesi once, I have never repeated a class, but I have only taken classes at a community college. I should have only one class left to take (philosophy)..

(I am retaking chemistry this fall, but that is for my own knowledge. I think they will take the chemistry I took back in 1992.....but I don't remember most of it.....)

I don't have medical experience, but on the application it asked for work history, so I listed my non medical work history there....( I have worked at my present company for 26 years.... so I think that should count for something :)

.....yeah, do the math.....I AM OLD :)

I have been with the same company since I was 19.

My science gpa is 4.0

My pre-req gpa is 3.88

My overall gpa is 3.5ish

My hesi score is 94.8

a&p 92, vocab 100, grammer 100, math 96, reading comprehension 86, critical thinking 910
