Hello friends!

I'm creating this as a communication board for new students/applicants to talk on about:

  • Current GPA -- science & overall
  • Requirements needed to apply
  • HESI test requirements
  • Applications -- status or general info
  • Acceptance!

A quick intro-- My name is Maira and I've followed previous threads on here and I love how much information you can get from it! (I followed and read ALL of UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016)

I'm applying at UThealth for the nursing pacesetter program for Spring 2017. The application is due by Aug. 15 and I haven't submitted it yet because I haven't taken the HESI! I'm getting anxious about taking it, have any of y'all taken yours yet?!

Also, I've been meaning to stop by the school and see if my pre-reqs meet their requirements. I'm a bit confused on whether they will average 2 scores of the same class or not. For instance, a long time ago I took a English course and got a F (I was careless and young) and now I retook it and got a A. Another thing that I've been wondering about is what exactly the 5 hours of "electives" are-- will they accept a math class for it?

Well I look forward to meeting all of you!!!! Good luck!!!! :inlove:

LinkedIn tells you who viewed your page. Min said someone who wishes to remain anonymous from UTHSC looked at my page 1 week ago.

:nailbiting: Looks like I need to go update my LinkedIn profile!

I went and updated my Linkedin page....I hadn't even finished setting it up....

No one has looked at my page....

Do we need a LinkedIn page in order to be accepted at UT?

Do we need a LinkedIn page in order to be accepted at UT?

Not at all! According to all information from their website, information sessions, and prior students, GPA and HESI scores are the determining factors.

I think I jumped the gun.... My plan was to apply for Fall 2017 entrance, however, I just realized I will not actually complete my 8 science pre-requisites until after the deadline date (March 15th). I will not finish my AP II until the beginning of May. :( And I'm pretty sure they will tell me my application is incomplete.

So I've resigned myself to applying for Spring 2018. The problem is that I've already paid the application fee for Fall! Will they let me change the starting semester without having to pay again? I haven't been able to log-in to Myuth yet (called, but have yet to hear back), because the info they emailed me isn't working. Thought you all might have some insight as to what I should do at this point!

After having all of my classes completed for the BSN of nursing, and a GPA of 3.85, it breaks my heart to realize I was so close to make it to nursing school. Unfortunately, I did not pass the Math section of the HESI, my overall score was 88% because the rest of the test I made it in the 90's. My A&P section was a 90, my critical thinking 950 and the rest was ranging between 92 to 98, but during the last section (the Math part) I made a 64 .

I was completely heartbroken!!! I ran out of time, and I had to guess the last 15 questions, I concentrated on the A&P and critical thinking part of the test, instead of Math. I learned the hard way, and I will try again next round of applications. But for now, I wish everyone the best! Good luck and stay strong!

@allsmilesDA Good Luck!!! I think there are other schools you could still apply to, have you taken the TEAS? Also, you took the exam under the UTHSC Code right? what about trying UT or something?

I took it under Lone Star community college, I was too afraid to test under UT's code. I'm not even attempting the TEAS test, I have heard it's way too hard, more than the HESI.

Due to my low score on Math, I can't apply anywhere else until I pass that section of the test. I can only go to school in Houston, I'm a mother of 3 active kids! And I'm also working at a dental office while attending school. I'm completely done with my BSN prerequisites, everything is done, I even took pharmacology for nursing and my GPA is really high.

I'm definitely going to study harder for the Math portion, keep reviewing and practicing until I can do a good time on the Math section, that was my biggest problem during the test and I ran out of time, I had to guess the last questions.

I'm thankful regardless, I think I actually have a shot at this, I just need to keep studying. I did really good in the other sections. I was heartbroken but I learned my lesson.

Sorry to hear that  You seem like a great student with a great chance of getting in. Just study hard for the next exam and retake it! Take a few full- length practice exams leading up to the exam to practice being more efficient with your time. You can apply for Summer 2017!

Hi all,

Does anyone know how strict UTH is on taking the exact course listed on their prerequisite transfer guide? At my school, University of Houston, we have two microbiology courses which are the elementary microbio (BIOL 3332) for science majors and "pre-nursing" microbio (BIOL 1153) courses. Both of which are taught by the same professor. He tells me the labs are for sure 100% identical curriculum wise. I took the science major one and the syllabuses for both courses look pretty much word for word the same with the exception of a few sentences. Does anyone have any prior experience with a situation like this? I seem to have trouble getting a reply from admissions (which is understandable). I just want to know while I still have time to drop this pre-nursing microbio course and still get a full refund. Best regards and good luck to anyone applying in this cycle!

aminyusuf94,

I found this prerequisite equivalency list from their website and I think they only accept BIOL 1153. This is the link if you want to check it out: https://nursing.uth.edu/prospstudent/applresources/documents/prereqtransferbsn.pdf

Hope this helps!
