hi there, I'm a spring 2010 UT houston hopefull, I'm trying to see who else is embarking on this journey so we can support each other. I really enjoyed tracking the Fall 2009 class, and I hope we can do the same. I still have a few classes to take. I am currently taking chemistry. As of now my science GPA is 3.33, and overall gpa is 3.61. I am taking the net in May.
Can't wait to hear from others.
*sigh*... I don't get it. UT finally evaluated my transcripts and they're showing different grades than I am. Still showing a 4.00 for science, but it's showing a 3.6470 for nursing prerequisitites (I calculated 3.5 or so) and only a 2.9940 for my overall GPA, when my calculations put me at 3.026 at the very least. I wonder if they're not counting post-bacc work as part of my GPA. That would SUCK! If that's the case, I can't ever get above a 2.9 something, even if I get another degree :-(. Argh! Stupid useless late teens and early 20's. I don't want to wait another 4 years to use academic fresh start. Academic fresh start would give me a 3.9 something overall, so it's definitely an option, but man I'm tired of sitting behind a desk (OK, not so tired that I'd rather be unemployed, but you know what I mean). Grrrr... I've just been working so frickin' hard to get my overall GPA up. I'm employed full-time and have two kids under 5, yet I'm still in school trying to raise that GPA. Apparently, it doesn't matter.
don't fret, i'm in the same boat!... darn the teen-early 20s for me too! if only i could do my college years again (academically, that is...) i haven't gone through all my grades to check their calculations (eek, maybe i should?!) but here are mine:
Nursing Prereqs: 3.732
Science Prereqs: 4.00
Undergrad: 3.06
I took the NET on Aug 22nd, and I was lucky I passed the reading with a 73 even with the freakin fire alarm and 100 in math. I still wish I knew about the re-take, but I'm happy I passed.. *whew*
I think the nursing and science GPAs are the most important, so just take those classes to boost ur GPA. I would hope they consider that 2nd Degree students with 160+ hrs of courses may have a lower overall GPA VS a 4.0 student with

if i'm not mistaken your overall gpa is irrelevant, as you are applying to nursing school and they will only be looking at the stuff that applies to the program.
generally, applicants to the upper division bachelor of science in nursing program are considered on the basis of the following criteria:
HOOK 'EM HORNS!!! (only if I get in though, otherwise gig 'em Aggies!)Boy I hope all of us are in classes together in the spring, because it seems like we'll have fun. You know, when we have time between classes, clinicals, and sleep!
haha! yeah it does seem like we'll have fun! one week exactly until the 17th! ahh! :uhoh21:
has anyone looked at the immunizations required for entry into the nursing program? I'm thinking i have to start now on those. The Hep B series especially since there are 3 shots. (the first one whenever, then the second one 1 to 2 months from the first shot, then the third one 4 to 6 months from the first shot). then i need a TB test too.
I think for Hep B you need to start TODAY, if not sooner. You can't start clinicals until the whole set is done. I started getting them in late July... Each one will run you about $70 at HEB or Randall's.
Actually UT only requires that you have the Hep B series started prior to enrollment. They actually have a clinic that will provide the all required vaccines to accepted students.

Does anyone know how long a TB test is good for? I had one done in '06...
i found an immunization record form on the website and it says a TB test within 12 months prior to registration is required. here's the form i found
