UT houston spring 2010 hopefuls

Published

hi there, I'm a spring 2010 UT houston hopefull, I'm trying to see who else is embarking on this journey so we can support each other. I really enjoyed tracking the Fall 2009 class, and I hope we can do the same. I still have a few classes to take. I am currently taking chemistry. As of now my science GPA is 3.33, and overall gpa is 3.61. I am taking the net in May.

Can't wait to hear from others.

Specializes in none as of yet, hoping for ped oncology!.
Hey everyone- Net Question!

OK I took the NET again through Pearson View which is computer based and you get your score right after you're done. I did great on the Main Idea Section and the Inference section. My weakness was outcomes. I am re-taking it and want to know what is your staregy in the "outcomes" section. For main idea and inference they come right out and tell you thats what they want but what would the wording of a question look like for "outcomes"? I have the ERI review book and I went off of that to determine what to look for in the passage but for some reason i didnt get that section of the reading. Any tips are welcome. I really appreciate it

I had that same problem, my lowest scores were in the outcome questions, and it dropped my score significantly. I think it is just harder to predict outcomes in science-reading situations. It's easy to predict that after I bathe, brush my teeth, read a story, and kiss my daughter goodnight that she will go to bed. It's harder to predict biological or medical outcomes because there are more variables. :banghead:

thanks cjbarnes2006, Im going to work my butt off to do better on this next one.

My net score was stinky too. The math got me. I think it was just the stress of being timed. I hope my grades will get me an interview. If I dont then I will retake it so I can apply for the accelerated program.

Hung- Keep your head up. I did much better the 2nd time...much better! I went from an 83 to a 97 on math and went up 15% in reading as well. The poeple at Pearson Vue are super nice...there are less than 20 people in the testing area. You have these big airplane earphones you can wear to drown out distraction noise. It was so much better than the first time. I was relaxed...knew what to expect....knew what rate I had to read at....all of these things are factors in helping you relax so you can do better. Just practice your reading speed. If it makes you feel better I am re-taking it for the 3rd time in ordser to get my reading higher.

CJBarnes- On the outcomes I got 4 out of 11 which is the sole reason I am retaking this for the 3rd time. That alone tanked my score. My friend said to treat them like a inference question. Thats what she did and outcomes were her best section on the test. I take it again tomorrow lets pray I nail it because if not I may go cry myself into a depression.

How did all of you do on the Science? I know it doesnt count really but just curious.

Thanks for the clarification on the outcomes questions. I got about the same score as you on that section. I'm not going to take the NET again because frankly, I'm content with my score and afraid if I take it again I will screw it up. UT takes the most recent, not the best, so I'm going to quit while I'm ahead lol.

On the science I got a 60% overall. I did well on the A&P and Chemistry sections, but totally bombed general biology. Not surprising, as I have never taken a general bio class.

thats exactly how i did on those sections too. i brushed up on that today even though it doesnt matter. So should I be content if I make above a 70 on reading? I made a 97 on math. What exactly did you get on reading again? I am thinking if I get like above a 70 I should just stick with it.

hey guys i just stumbled on this post when googling net information...i am also a ut houston spring 2010 hopeful, and i have a question about the net exam. when i called to schedule it i was asked if i needed the written expression and sciences sections added to the math and reading comprehension...i was under the impression that this was included in the test and school just looked at whichever sections they were interested in. does anybody know what the deal with that is? do i need to have them included?

Both the Pearson Vue (computer based) and ERI (paper) are the same test. They have Math, Reading, Written Expression, Science, and Personal stuff like what kindof learner are you. You have to schedule both through ERI. If you are applying to UT Houston SON the paper based test if full. The only dates available at this time are Sep 12th which is after the app deadline. You only have the option of the computer based test at this point. It is $100. They send your results to UT and UT takes your scores and they decide which sections they are going to use to factor in. UT only cares about Math and Reading to my knowledge. Hope that helps

I attended an informational session for UT Houston yesterday. The speaker said that they would accept net scores from the Sept 12th test. Everything else must be in by the deadline. She also said that no one with net scores lower than 70's in math and reading will be interviewed.

No one? I thought they looked at your GPAs first to be considered. They only have minimum GPA numbers listed on their website. There is not a minimum for the NET listed.

Thanks Amomin2006! I'm applying for the ACC BSN Summer 2010 and I was very concerned about my prereqs GPA. It's about a 3.7 but my science is a 4.0.

Didn't know if the 3.7 would be good enough! Taking the NET in September.

Darla-

You have to have a minimum of a 70 in both reading and math on NET to even be considered for an interview. If you read the Fall 09 Applicant thread you see people with 3.9 GPA's that didnt get interviews due to a 67 on the reading. The NET carries as much weight as your interview and GPA.

OK guys serious I just took the NET AGAIN and bombed the Predicting Outcomes section...again!!!! I need help....I need someone to tell me who took the NET and did well how they handled those questions. I have studied my ASS off and I am doing something that throwing it off.
