I am a pre-nursing student that applied to an RN program that starts Aug 2006. I recieved an acceptance letter with my name on it, and the Dean's signature before memorial day weekend. 2 Weeks later the Dean calls me back and informs be that I recieved the letter by mistake, and that I am on the waiting list. Is there anything I can do? I feel so hopeless!
Thanks for all those who replied. A few were good advice, while others were ones I too had thought of.
After days of waiting, phone calls, phone tag, and an orientation, the Dean told me to "go ahead and follow through to the Fall". Which I made sure to clarify meant to register and participate in the entrance process.
You can be rewarded for your patience. My journey begins . . .

Congratulations!
Something happened this year at our school that was about unforgiveable. Almost every letter (acceptance and not) that went out was sent to the wrong person. Weird thing is, that every person knew it because when they got the letters in their mailbox, it had someone else's name on it with their address on it. Upon opening the letter, it was addressed to someone else at their address as well. Talk about making someone ill! I got someone's "I'm sorry, but you've been put on the alternate list" letter and a friend of mine got my "Congratulations, you've been accepted" letter. My friend was supposed to have gotten a straight rejection letter. They fixed it but it took a while and we'd already been waiting 3 months for them to come!
Anyway, congratulations and study hard! :)

How wonderful for you! It's all water under the bridge now. New worries ahead.
alpayton. . .a few years ago I had a CAT scan of the chest done when my back pain was being evaluated. I got a call from a doctor in the group I went to (not the one who ordered the CAT scan) that I needed to come in to the office right away. I rushed over, was sat down and told by this particular doctor that they found a tumor in my lung on the CAT scan. Well, I was in tears. I did ask for a copy of the written report this doctor had been reading from on my way out the door after a consult with a pulmonologist had been arranged for the next day. I was so upset that when I was reading it at home later it didn't register in my brain that the report made mention of a comparison to a previous scan of the liver which I had never had done. By the time I got to see the pulmonologist the next day, I showed him this report and told him I thought it might be a mistake. What a nice doc he was. He called me at home later. He went to the hospital and pulled the films to look at them himself. MY films were just fine to my relief. There had been a problem with the dictating machine which also faxed out the reports to the attending physicians. It had slipped or something and the reports were moved up or down one patient and all the doctors had received dictations of x-ray results with the wrong patient names on them. The dude never even called to apologize for the error and the upset I had been put through. I changed to another physician.
Wowsers! Technology today never ceases to amaze me. Glad it turned out to be a mistake. Whew!
