Unprofessional & Jealous!!!

:uhoh3: O MY.... I AM VERY DISTURBED TO SEE HOW UNPROFESSIONAL A PHYSICIAN CAN BE TOWARDS CRNA's!!! I was browsing studentdoctor.net and came across this thread. The moderators over there didn't even say anthing regarding the language used by this physician or anything! I guess I'm just a little disappointed in the unprofessionalism on studentdoctor.net. I wonder if the moderators are jealous students or something. Check it out!!!!

I work with nurses from Duke University, Johns Hopkins, U of Pennsylvania, Yale, U of NC, U of Washington, etc... All excellent colleges from which to obtain an undergraduate degree. Nothing to sneer at. Some nurses have undergraduate educations superior to medical students/docs, and many nurses have multiple degrees. However, medical school offers an advanced degree (ie. "Doctor of Medicine") beyond even a Master's (which is what CRNAs & NPs have), so it is true that they have more education than most nurses. This does not always translate to better care for the healthcare consumer, however.

Well what type of degree do you hold and do you even work in the healthcare arena? From the way you sound, I doubt it. Speak for yourself and if you wish to compare then lets see physical evidence as in survival rates, outcome studys, test score comparisons, IQ comparisons. None of the above can you supply.

This discussion is not about who is smarter or more educated if I recall correctly. Dont try to spin this topic away from what it addresses.

...just wanted to tell all that this thread has been reported by a poster and is being monitored for TOS. Please keep the discussion on track.

If you visit SDN you can expect to get your feelings hurt. I think that it's OK to view the libelous thread once - just to know what's going on. If anything, it should make us stronger as nurses. It makes me want to work that much harder. Recently there was a very insightful sticky about SDN written by Kevin McHugh. It was added to the main CRNA forum page. It pretty much says it all - Kevin rocks!

I'm a bedside nurse, as are all the nurses I mentioned. And sorry for the confusion, but if you read the posts sequentially, you'll see that I was responding to post #34. Someone tried to make the point that the reason nurses are bashed is b/c we are less educated, which is tied into the original topic.

Yes, please try to stay on topic.

Thank you.

Unfortunately, to some docs (and many student docs) nurses are nurses and to be disdained, used and abused. Whether AD, BSN, Masters or Doctorate prepared, some docs feel a nurse is a nurse is a nurse, occupying space somewhere deep beneath them. If they're open, in time the students may change their minds...but many will never do it, so there's no use in getting my panties in a wad about it I figure..

The overreaching topic is beyond this isolated MD board, I hope. In my understanding it's about MD perception of nurses, and whether or not this board reflects the dominant view. There are many aspects to this subject, so I don't really understand how I or anyone else has gone off topic.

I agree. It's my belief that we need to start recognizing our own worth & not feel like underdogs. We offer a valuable service at a reduced cost (as in the case with CRNAs). Additionally, many of our members are highly educated, with lends credibility to this field professionally. But in addition to education, many nurses come from other fields or "life experiences" (such as having children first), which I believe means that we have an interesting & diverse group of human beings offering compassionate & intelligent care to the general population.

This is the point I was trying to make.

It's always been my understanding that all NPs were created to bring healthcare to medically underserved populations; to serve those who would otherwise go without. It's regrettable that these students feel threatened by those they deem inferior. Theirs is a very spoiled, selfish additude that only served to undermine those (nurses) who have made major contributions to healthcare. Perhaps they fail to understand that NPs were not created to replace them, but to bring healthcare to the very young, the poor, and those who live in rual areas.

Again, I would steer clear of that forum. Visiting it only seems to result in hurt feelings.

Hopefully, these students will grow up.

1. Methinks we have a lurker here who may not be telling us the real story of who we are. Trying desperately to downplay and undermine the education received by nurses in general, as well as CRNA's, in order to find some way to feel superior, and good about themselves. Hence, the following post:

We won't have interesting posts here because we are, for the most part, people who are not as educated and as they. We will always lag behing in that aspect. Our knowledge is lacking and nurses are not known for being "on top of things" for the most part. Just my two cents.

Rather sad and pathetic when viewed from a realistic angle, isn't it?

2. Let it go. If they want to "bash" nurses there, well, it's their board, let them have at it. Hard knocks will teach them otherwise.

My grandmother used to say, "The only person that can make you feel bad about who you are is you." I believe that we ahould all be proud of our chosen profession and what it contributes to society. And yes, as it keeps getting pushed back into my face, I am not a nurse as of yet, but I spent 21 years running from what I believe is my true calling- nursing, and I believe that whether we are nurses or doctors or even lawyers, the only persons opinion that counts is the one in the mirror.
