University of Texas at Arlington Fall 2020 Cohort

Published

Hello Everyone!!

It is finally my time to post to this forum! EXCITING!!! I did not see a thread for Fall 2020 and I might be SUUUUPER early but man that nursing application process takes proper a year doesn't it?

I am done with all my general courses and TEAS except for nursing chem, one elective (health and human disease), Patho, Pharm, and Intro to Nursing. I plan to take CHEM 1451 and HEED 4312 in the Fall 19 semester, apply in January, and then while waiting on that, take Patho and Intro to Nursing in Spring 2020 and Pharm by itself in Summer 2020.

I have an A in Micro, A&P 1, and A&P 2. This has been a LOOOONG journey and I cannot wait to start!

Hey guys,

I just heard back from the AO BSN office. They are only contacting those who were not compliant and letting them know, so it’s good we haven’t heard from them. As long as we submitted what we were supposed to by the deadline we are all good to go!8DE6F58D-4D9A-4DE3-808C-CD07DBB2D5A3.thumb.jpeg.4491af0256cd3801a6f3e0847ab857fb.jpeg

Yeah I could see how being partnered will allow less competitive students to get in. But I imagine this is an incentive for hospitals to conduct clinical rotations at their facility. The AOBSN program will allow employees to be trained at their facilities and will allow them to fill their nursing positions . The following are the allegations as per the dallas morning news:

"The investigation noted that the vendor inappropriately influenced UT-Arlington officials, pressured university staff on admissions frequently and had a financial relationship with a lower level administrator that was improper and covered some overtime pay for university officials in order to drive up enrollment for the online program.

The investigation found that when UT-Arlington staff raised concerns about the online enrollment procedures, Karbhari dismissed them and even suggested to the vendor that grade average standards be lowered in order to drive up enrollment. It also notes that the vendor donated more than $2 million to UT-Arlington."

What I am calling out on these allegations as false is the grade average standards being lowered on admission to the online program. I have no idea if the other allegations are true or not. At the end of the day I will judge UTA's online nursing program based on their attrition rate and their NCLEX passing rate which is what we should all care about. This is the best indicator of the quality of teaching within the AOBSN program.

id that guy stepped down as a president I d assume he is guilty of something, why else would he do that...?

OP here, I'm sorry if I angered anyone. Truly not my intention. I just saw it and was concerned, and I wanted to see if anyone else was worried.

I also am wary of these allegations, but I suppose it's out of our hands. Wishing everyone the best on their career path and sending good thoughts to y'all in these crazy times! Stay well.

I m not worried...I knew it all the time...I asked the department to start posting a list with accepted students and their score 2 years ago, because what they do is absolutely unfair to all the students...

So because my GPA is lower than yours and I have considerations makes it unfair? Give me a break man. Every school has different rules.

hey my 3 considerations made me a score of 9.1...I m all about the considerations..I just disagree with the "partnered' thing

UTA does not have to lower their standards to allow more students to attend their program. All they have to do is increase their number of seats available. Increased teaching capacity doesnt equate to entry of low quality candidates like the article tries to imply. The program would still attract highly competitive students since it is the ONLY online BSN program for non nurses that finishes within 15 months in Texas. I searched other programs and they are either on campus for 15 months or online for 2 years. The current waitlist for entry this year to the AOBSN has many students who are high quality candidates.

I will not recommend this program to anyone who doesn’t have any considerations which can add up to their points like military and other bachelor degree. It is extremely hard (may be impossible) for non-UTA students with no other considerations to get in. It is so discouraging to find out that someone with 6.5 getting into the program and with 8 points waiting on the waitlist. They should either increased the seats or stop prioritizing students working on partnered hospitals or should only give certain number of seats for them and allow them to competite with others.

it s not u to UTA - the seats - its up to the gvmt funding to pay hospitals for the training..or give money to the university to pay hospitals....that s why seats are limited...as far as the 'partnered" thing - I posted several complaints online 2 years ago and said it to the department as well - just because some cook in a partnered hospital (as an example) works there doesn't give him advantage to be accepted with score of 6.3 instead of the person with 7.3 who is not partnered....this is complete BULL....some of us studied our asses of to get GPA 3.5 -4 , have considerations - served in the military, did a lot of classes at UTA or have another BS degree...how is that "partnered" person who s done none of that and has a GPA of 3 more qualified than any of us...??

You are completely right. It is so unfair to all the students who had worked so hard. I heard from a friend that someone with 6.5 was accepted for fall 2020 just because that person was working in the partnered hospital. I have seen people with greater than 7.5 points on the waitlist and it is so unfair.

I can see both sides. Yes it’s unfair GPA wise but they look at other aspects as well. And also it’s not like you have to get a full time clinical position in the partnered hospitals in order to be considered partnered. They take any pay stub from the hospital so you could be a PRN cook and work once a week or something and be partnered.

I dont think anyone is angered and your right to be concerned. Like I mentioned earlier UTA has a good first time passing rate on the NCLEX and that is what speaks volumes about the program. In the end we have no control over what the president did or didn't do so I wouldnt worry about it.

Lets hope that the COVID19 situation is undercontrol within the next few months. As of right now all clinical rotations are still a GO but I know many other schools are canceling clinical rotations. That is what concerns me most. I know it is difficult for hospitals to teach in the midst of a pandemic but as long as we have PPE I think us students should be able to help however we can, expecially if the hospitals are burdened with a surge of patients. I hope to god what is happening in Italy with hospitals being overwhelmed doesnt occur here. Their hospitals are overwhelmed and as a result the mortality rate in italy is 8% where as in other countries it is hovering at around 3%.
