University of Texas at Arlington Fall 2020 Cohort

Published

Hello Everyone!!

It is finally my time to post to this forum! EXCITING!!! I did not see a thread for Fall 2020 and I might be SUUUUPER early but man that nursing application process takes proper a year doesn't it?

I am done with all my general courses and TEAS except for nursing chem, one elective (health and human disease), Patho, Pharm, and Intro to Nursing. I plan to take CHEM 1451 and HEED 4312 in the Fall 19 semester, apply in January, and then while waiting on that, take Patho and Intro to Nursing in Spring 2020 and Pharm by itself in Summer 2020.

I have an A in Micro, A&P 1, and A&P 2. This has been a LOOOONG journey and I cannot wait to start!

Who is the vendor? Is it related to partnered hospitals or someone else? Is this violations was for all online nursing program including AOBSN? It arises more question especially to those who do not get in even though having good points.

I’m wondering the same thing. I got in with an 8.8, but wasn’t partnered. Interested to see how it turns out.

the vendor is Academic Partnership.......most likely....unaffiliated company "recruiting' more students for schools....

But, I was also contacted by one of the advisor from academic partnership and he used to call me frequently until I applied for the UTA. But, I have to go through all the process. It took almost 3 months as I had my degree from out of the country and they didn’t moved my application forward until they got my official transcript, even though I had done all the prerequisites here in a community college. I had almost gave up but the guy kept on pushing me until I was properly admitted to the school. But, the article says “direct admit” so I was confused.

I think they do the marketing jobs and now I feel I was deceived as there is a very slim chance for transfer students to get into the AOBSN unless you are partnered with one of those partnered hospitals.

UTA does not have to lower their standards to allow more students to attend their program. All they have to do is increase their number of seats available. Increased teaching capacity doesnt equate to entry of low quality candidates like the article tries to imply. The program would still attract highly competitive students since it is the ONLY online BSN program for non nurses that finishes within 15 months in Texas. I searched other programs and they are either on campus for 15 months or online for 2 years. The current waitlist for entry this year to the AOBSN has many students who are high quality candidates.

it s not u to UTA - the seats - its up to the gvmt funding to pay hospitals for the training..or give money to the university to pay hospitals....that s why seats are limited...as far as the 'partnered" thing - I posted several complaints online 2 years ago and said it to the department as well - just because some cook in a partnered hospital (as an example) works there doesn't give him advantage to be accepted with score of 6.3 instead of the person with 7.3 who is not partnered....this is complete BULL....some of us studied our asses of to get GPA 3.5 -4 , have considerations - served in the military, did a lot of classes at UTA or have another BS degree...how is that "partnered" person who s done none of that and has a GPA of 3 more qualified than any of us...??

George. You got accepted. Why are you complaining.

Yeah I could see how being partnered will allow less competitive students to get in. But I imagine this is an incentive for hospitals to conduct clinical rotations at their facility. The AOBSN program will allow employees to be trained at their facilities and will allow them to fill their nursing positions . The following are the allegations as per the dallas morning news:

"The investigation noted that the vendor inappropriately influenced UT-Arlington officials, pressured university staff on admissions frequently and had a financial relationship with a lower level administrator that was improper and covered some overtime pay for university officials in order to drive up enrollment for the online program.

The investigation found that when UT-Arlington staff raised concerns about the online enrollment procedures, Karbhari dismissed them and even suggested to the vendor that grade average standards be lowered in order to drive up enrollment. It also notes that the vendor donated more than $2 million to UT-Arlington."

What I am calling out on these allegations as false is the grade average standards being lowered on admission to the online program. I have no idea if the other allegations are true or not. At the end of the day I will judge UTA's online nursing program based on their attrition rate and their NCLEX passing rate which is what we should all care about. This is the best indicator of the quality of teaching within the AOBSN program.

Hi guys!
First time posting. But I was wondering if anyone has received the second email Program coordinator said was going out today after uploading req documentation? TIA!

@dod27

I just logged on to ask that same question LOL. I haven’t, but I submitted everything that was required up to this point. I also emailed AO BSN Office asking about this, however, I haven’t heard back yet.

Same here, and everything was verified too. I didn’t email them, but I’m guessing they have a lot going on with this virus situation. Hopefully we hear back soon!
