Anyone have any insight on this program? I'm in the process of applying and would love to know about the school!
Thanks for the advice!! It really helps a lot to know what areas to look at and where to stay away from! Good luck to you at UCF!
Thanks good luck at USF. I enjoyed the school. New Tampa is nice over priced IMO, the traffic in the morning and worse the evening along Bearss is terrible (I hope you do not have to take 75N because you will be stuck) and there will be a long drive to/from clinicals depending on time. Everything will not be at University Hosipital which is right across from USF. If it was it would make sense to stay in New Tampa. My advice is if you stay in New Tampa just try to stay west of 75 and Leave early.
If any of you have questions about housing or parts of town just send me a private message. Or anyone got some helpful tips about Orlando/UCF area let me know.

I think New Tampa gets a bad rap when it comes to traffic (unfortunately, I have no idea about apartment rental prices), so I'm going to say this little bit and leave it alone....
Honestly....traffic is pretty bad everywhere in Tampa Bay during rush hour. (I lived in the Town N Country/Citrus Park area prior to moving to New Tampa and since moving to Tampa several years ago, I've regularly commuted to several different sections of the area - downtown, Clearwater, North West Tampa, Brandon and to an area off Busch Blvd/Dale Mabry. I also volunteer at a hospital about 30 minutes from my home and traffic is a bit worse over there during rush hour). I haven't personally found traffic to be any worse in New Tampa and I've lived here 5 years. I live only a few minutes from I-75 and love it....it's really convenient. I definitely agree that no matter where you live in Tampa, you have to plan/ensure that you're not going to get stuck in early morning or late afternoon traffic....b/c umm, traffic here sucks.
Hi MEL1207,
Thank you!
Yeah I think you need a certain # of posts before you can send PMs. :)
As gilbert727 said, they will let you decelerate if you need it. You will have to fill out a form (I think). I also don't think the instructors try to weed you out. That was my favorite aspect of the program - the instructors. And I totally agree with what gilbert727 said about the accelerated class. Our clinical team was pretty close and we all got along great. We came from different walks of life, and that was pretty neat. We went through some tough times together, and we made it!
Im new to this site but I have been reading the posts for a while. Congratulations to the people that got accepted into the USF nursing summer program. I am on the alternate list also so I am hoping for the best for all of the alternates.
I definetly know that USF has a great nursing program...(Im a little biased since I am an Alumni...lol) I work at the hospital and I see the nursing students in action, while they are on their clinicals. They really stand out above the rest....April 13th is when we alternates will know our fate....
Out of curiosity, what kind of GPA's and experience did those of you who got accepted have? I ask because I've been accepted to UM, but it's too late to apply for their scholarship. USF was my first choice, but they said I had to take a different chem class before I could apply and the chem class ends 2 days after the application deadline. I'm trying to decide if I should go with UM and be in debt or further delay my life to try for the program that I really want, but only if it's feasible that I get in (4.0 in sciences, 3.8 overall, loosely connected experience as a 911 operator and morgue photo and x-ray assistant... don't ask lol)

Congrats on UM. The decision is purely up to you. I know one person that attended UM's accelerated program and she did not speak too highly about it... but that is her opinion only. Um does have a good reputation though...I don't know about that nursing school, so I couldn't say.
As far as my stats go I have around a 3.5-3.6 I am a current volunteer at a children's hospital, and have had experience in other facilities as well(observing healthcare professionals), and a job as a respiratory tech.
I say go to the school you want to go to.... but you have amazing grades, so I wouldn't worry... as long as you take that chem class you should be ok.
Good luck with your decision =)
