Anyone have any insight on this program? I'm in the process of applying and would love to know about the school!

Specializes in Labor and Delivery.

Mel328 - congrats on UM! :yeah:

I do not have specific volunteer or career experience in the medical field as this is truly a second career for me (in my letter i did talk about my experience with my father who is in the advance stages of cancer....i have assisted with his care). My first career of 14 yrs was in HR, which included health insurance. I have an overall gpa of 3.5 and a 3.6 in my pre-reqs.

I understand your point about delaying things, as MEL1207 said it's really a personal choice. Just from what i have experienced so far (the stress of not knowing and waiting), I would think it would be very difficult to wait when you have already been accepted to UM.....even though it is expensive. Good luck with the path you choose!

I was accepted to UM for the summer start as well and I am on the wait list at USF. I'm not sure what I'll do if I get in! It's a hard decision for me. . .

Specializes in Med-Surg Tele, Psych.

I dont know how they are going to do it...but I check soar everyday twice so that I will know what happens.

I saw someone post earlier about a place to stay! I currently live at Sterling 42nd (http://www.sterlinghousing.com/Florida/Tampa/Sterling-42nd/Home-1336.html)! It was just built this year and I am the FIRST and ONLY to live in my unit. I am at USF for undergrad in my JR. year =D Premed Psych major. I am subleasing b/c i need to leave for the summer if anyone is interested. Not sure if anyone is interested in student living, but it is 630 a month utilities included and 2 roomates (seniors)! If your interested and want to test it out for the summer (lease ends in August) before you "renew" (if you want) then you can let me know.. [email protected] GOOD LUCK all of you at grad school at USF.! If you need any info as far as location or my experiences feel free to email me, as far as grad school is concerned I can't really help you there since I'm still a Jr =D

Specializes in Critical Care - Adults, Peds & Neonates.
Out of curiosity, what kind of GPA's and experience did those of you who got accepted have? I ask because I've been accepted to UM, but it's too late to apply for their scholarship. USF was my first choice, but they said I had to take a different chem class before I could apply and the chem class ends 2 days after the application deadline. I'm trying to decide if I should go with UM and be in debt or further delay my life to try for the program that I really want, but only if it's feasible that I get in (4.0 in sciences, 3.8 overall, loosely connected experience as a 911 operator and morgue photo and x-ray assistant... don't ask lol)

My cumulative undergrad GPA - 3.6; GPA in the 5 courses USF deemed vital: 3.842; I've volunteered at a local hospital since July 2009; & like pjceaa, this is truly a career change for me...I've been in the work force for awhile.

hey!

LawyerGirl or pjceaa- do you know if our summer session is C? I'm just trying to figure out the dates our classes last until. I'm just thinking it's most likely summer c. Please let me know if you guys have any idea :) Thanks!

Specializes in Labor and Delivery.

MEL1207 - i confirmed our classes will be in the summer C format (May 17 - Jul 23). Are you currently enrolled in classes, if so, I was told our new advisor will enroll us and we can ignore the registration info we received from the registrar. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the confirmation pjceaa  and no... I'm brand new to USF... =) thanks for the advice though... and responding so fast !

I'm new to USF too, what BLS class are you guys going to take? Anyone know where to get a TB test too! USF is huge! I am still working full time until May 7th so trying to get all this done is a challenge!

For the alternate list, are they going to notify us as each spot becomes or available just the 13th? The continued wait is killing me and I am sure it is for everyone else as well! Good luck to everybody! :)

How many are on the alternate list? How many people got into the program? I am just wondering about the competiveness of the program...

binforda- I am taking the BLS for healthcare providers class where I currently live in Ft. Laud... You can find an available class by checking the American Heart Association website.. As far as the TB test goes you can get it from any healthcare provider most likely.. I got mine at the hospital where I volunteer. Let me know if you have any ?'s =)

i asked someone how many alternates and they said usually its 8-10
