Anyone applying to the University of Miami ABSN program for next summer 2012?
Hey guys I am new to this post!
I am applying to the Spring 2012 Accelerated BSN program thats only 12-15 months. I am a senior at Boston University with a 3.2 gpa with tons of medical experience and I've worked all throughout college. Also, I am a Resident Assistant. My resume is pretty solid but I'm just worried by gpa is kinda low. However, my prereq GPA is like a 3.6.
Can anyone gave me some feedback on my likeliness of getting accepted? Am I a competitive candidate?
Also, did you guys just answer the essay on Commonapp? I couldn't find a specific essay as it pertained to the program.
Thanks in advance!
Congrats to all that got accepted!!!
My name is Chantel and I also applied for Spring 2012 for the Accelerated program. I am graduating from FAU this December with a Bachelor's in Biological Science. I was in a major car accident that set me back and was unable to turn in everything until September. If anyone could give me any feedback as to how long it took to get your acceptance letter I'd really appreciate it. My application is being reviewed and I am soooooooo nervous. Thanks and hopefully I'll be seeing you all soon! :)
Hey guys! i just got that second letter but im FREAKING OUT! It says I need to take a stats class BEFORE enrollment in clinical sections for spring 2012! I was originally told by an advisor over the phone that all my classes transfered smoothy for the pre recs and I had everything and now theyre springing this on me! I was accpeted to the program for spring 12 and everything! AH! Did this happen to anyone else?!
Hi JessRam,
I received my acceptance letter to the Accelerated BSN program on October 1st. I can't really say if I think that you would get accepted or not because I have no idea what admission requirement they consider the most, but I can tell you some of my stats. I graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor's in Pre-professional Biology. I have a 3.62 overall GPA (Organic Chem I & II killed my GPA) and a 3.88 pre-req GPA. As an undergrad, I shadowed a physician as well as a nurse practitioner at the University of Florida as part of a course that you had to apply to and be accepted into- it was controlled by UF's College of Medicine (that's where one of my letters of recommedation came from). I also had another letter from my microbiology teacher. Your pre-req GPA is good and I think it's great that you have so much medical experience! I'm sure it will definitely help you once you are in a nursing program. As far as if your overall GPA is competitive enough, I would call the SONHS or the office of admissions to ask. For the Common App essay, I don't think it was specific to the SONHS, I think it was just a general University of Miami essay question. Hope this helps a little bit! I know that this is a stressful process and naturally you want to know how good your chances are of getting accepted.
Hi Chantel,
I submitted my Common Application on September 11th, all of my documents were received on the 19th (had a bit of a hold up with the College Official's Report form) and I received my letter of acceptance & acceptance packet on October 1st.
Best of luck to you both :)

Hey transferlh,
I just got the second letter in the mail today. While I don't have a major requirement like stats to finish, they did tell me that we need to be CPR certified before December 9th (I think that was the date). That was a surprise to me- I don't recall reading that on their website. I'm actually taking a First Aid/CPR/AED course now so I'll be certified when this semester ends (it ends on December 9th, as fate would have it. I hope I can get certified a few days in advance so that it's not cutting it too close...) Also, it said in the letter that we would have 2 weeks from the receipt of the letter to pay the $500 clinical deposit, but the actual certificate was dated October 6th and I just received it today (the 11th) and I only live like an hour and a half from Miami :icon_roll Guess I'll be mailing the $500 on Friday. I hope you get everything straightened out with stats, that's really unfortunate that someone misinformed you on something so critical to your acceptance into the program.
I just go the second packet yesterday as well, I am missing the CPR certificate. I was looking through the AHA website to see which ones they offer, does anyone know which class were supposed to take? I see that they have a CPR AED course and they also have a BLS course that may include AED as well, I am somewhat confused since the email states that we need CPR, AED, and BLS certificate.
Hey Kayla,
Thanks for responding. I turned mine in at the end of spring so I'm still waiting and praying. Thanks for the luck, I need everything I can get right now lol. Looking forward to hopefully meeting you this spring! :)
