Hello everyone! I may be a little early with this, but here's a new post for all of you hoping to apply this September 2nd for the Spring 2015 semester at UMSON. You can post questions you have, helpful advice you would like to give (if you're already in the program), etc.
I specifically have a question for those who have already applied to the Spring 2014 semester and got in. When you applied last September, when in November did you get your acceptance letter in the mail? Was it the beginning, middle, or toward the end of November? I'm asking this because the other nursing school I am applying to only gives a 3-week time period after the end of October (when they let you know if you made it in or not) to accept or decline enrollment. So, if I don't make it into UMSON, I'd want to be able to give this other nursing school an answer before the 3-week time period runs out.
@ little mango,
I loved my nutrition and Microbiology classes as well. My Nutrition class was an eight - week session just like yours, and for the Microbiology I took last Summer there was much to study but I got to enjoy the study guides and the microbial scientific names.
Infact I now tutor Microbiol and Chemistry
:)
purpleandwhite,
I was wait listed last semester. Like everyone, you will receive a letter in the mail. This letter gives you certain information about how to accept or decline your spot on the wait list. From there, the admissions office (going off of what they told me last semester) will review ALL WAIT LISTED APPLICANTS again, once a position opens up. They review all these applicants against each other and pick the person (or people) that would best fit the incoming class. You can be notified that you were accepted off of the wait list up until the first day of classes.
If you are not accepted off of the wait list for the Spring, your application automatically gets carried over to the Fall (following certain guidelines they provide you), and you will not need to reapply or submit more money.
I hope this helps! Good luck! Wish you the best!
There is no set priority, order, or list to those who are waitlisted. There is no ranking, necessarily. Basically, you get a letter, asking if you would like to remain on the waiting list and how to respond. Then...you wait. You won't hear anything until after the deadline for accepted students to respond. Once that has passed, UMSON will know how many accepted students have declined, and thus, how many seats have opened up. A few waitlisted students will get a call. After that, it could be at any time that a waitlisted student might get a call.
There is nothing that you can do to influence where you are on the waiting list. It is pretty much a very effective lesson in patience. Being on the waiting list means that you are good enough to get in, but not necessarily at the top of the applicant pool. It means that they want you, but they don't have room for you. You just wait. And if no spots open up, UMSON will contact you when the waiting list is closed, to see if you would like them to use your application for next semester.
Yes, it is nerve-wracking and sometimes agonizing. I was waitlisted for Spring 2014, but then got in two weeks later. I messed up my Algebra credit, so I could not attend, and had to reapply. I was waitlisted for Fall 2014, and a seat never opened up. They just used the same application for Spring 2015. My status has not changed. At this point, with my track record, I do not expect to be accepted. I anticipate being placed on the waiting list. Moving ahead with Towson!
My best advice to you is to get comfortable with waiting and being patient! It is totally out of your hands now, so there is no point in worrying about it. Figure out a back-up plan. Focus on other important aspects of your life, for the time being. Think about the spring semester, and if there are any classes you can take. Start looking at other schools. Think about what you can do to improve your chances. That said, it also doesn't hurt to tackle some of the tasks that need to be completed, in case a seat opens up for you.
@ afowler77 I agree with what you said about being waitlisted. It is the test of one's patience. Focus on other aspects of your life while looking forward to the final word.
littlemango I certainly would be honored to help out should I get into UMSON. I enjoy dimensional analysis, solution calculations, pH and dilution calcs of both Chem and Micro and even though I have never taken Pathophysiology I believe with my tutoring review I should be on a good footing for my first year in Nursing school.
We the CNL applicants should know by mid-November or the end of the month of our admission decissions.
If I get in I'll certainly love to IM you.
I will not stop to say that you are a good influence. And CONGRATS on your admissions.
:)
I'm right there waiting with you! I called earlier in the week and they said that everyone should know by friday and that their advice was to keep updating SURFS.
FWIW, I haven't received a phone call yet. I just noticed the status change on SURFS yesterday. So I think you'll see it update there first!
Congratulations to all those who have been admitted! I can't wait to hear how you all do in nursing school!
I am looking for advice. This is my second time not being admitted. Last time I knew it was my TEAS score and this time my TEAS score was better, but I assume it still didn't help. I am looking to improve my TEAS scores and volunteer at a hospital near me since I am sure volunteer experience will help! Do you all think there is anything else that my improve my chances of getting in next semester. Any classes I could take like a medical terminology class or any others that will help me? Maybe even possible essay advice? I'd really appreciate ANY advice at all to help my dream of getting into nursing school!
Again, I'm so happy to those who got in so far and to those who haven't heard back, it will come soon enough!

Don't worry brooke_, I'm sure all will turn out well.
My nutrition class was really interesting! Ended about two weeks ago, an 8-week course. Micro is fun! My teacher is all about study guides, so the tests are as expected.
