Hello everyone! I may be a little early with this, but here's a new post for all of you hoping to apply this September 2nd for the Spring 2015 semester at UMSON. You can post questions you have, helpful advice you would like to give (if you're already in the program), etc.

I specifically have a question for those who have already applied to the Spring 2014 semester and got in. When you applied last September, when in November did you get your acceptance letter in the mail? Was it the beginning, middle, or toward the end of November? I'm asking this because the other nursing school I am applying to only gives a 3-week time period after the end of October (when they let you know if you made it in or not) to accept or decline enrollment. So, if I don't make it into UMSON, I'd want to be able to give this other nursing school an answer before the 3-week time period runs out.

I'm applying to the RN-BSN program. I would love any information in regards to the online program specifically any clinical requirements.

Hey littlemango - Hoping I can help you out a bit here. I was a candidate for the Spring 2014 application cycle, and while I was wait-listed, it's my understanding all decisions are made and acted upon uniformly.

The applications for Spring 2014 were originally due September 4, and without explanation, that deadline was pushed back to September 15. Decisions started going out November 1st -If you applied online you'll notice a box that says "Application Status" and most people saw that change before they got their phone calls.

While this is purely speculation I'm guessing the admissions board starts at the top and bottom of the list, those who are definitely accepted or rejected and work there way to the middle, which is where the wait-listers come from. UMSON takes 80 or so students to the Baltimore campus and 40 or so to the Shady Grove campus. (It doesn't matter which campus you apply to, the administration assures that the # of applicants is a weighted ratio - more people apply to Baltimore.)

So, from November 1st to November 7th just about all of us on the board had heard our decisions. However, there was a small percentage of people who found out they were accepted and rejected into late November. Furthermore, there were people on the wait-list that were offered positions into December.

As a wait-listed applicant, I didn't receive a phone call, but rather saw my status change to "wait-listed" on November 6th and got a letter in the mail November 18th confirming that status.

One student, that I was acquaintances with at my CC, got her acceptance phone call November 4th and her letter one week from that date.

It's my understanding that various circumstances, such as military enlistment, can prompt an earlier decision. But every semester I see people juggling acceptances from other schools waiting to hear back from UMSON.

Great luck to you in your application!

queserasera, thank you for your information! Very helpful! :^) It looks like the deadline for Spring 2015 will be September 2nd this year. I'm guessing they will send out their decisions about the same time. So I'll probably have to keep checking the online application status as soon as November comes around. Oh my, I'm so nervous!

Hi littlemango! So glad you started this topic, thanks :)

I'm applying to the BSN program in the spring, too, and quite frankly I'm nervous. There are things on my checklist that I still need to do--such as go to an information session--but it's been difficult squeezing that in because of school and work. I'm hoping to attend the one in May, regardless. I'm gathering that you're already done with your application and that it's submitted? If so, can I ask you something? It's okay to send in our letters of rec, TEAS scores, transcripts, etc. after we've submitted the online application, right? I'm pretty sure this is a "yes," but I want to make sure I'm not messing up the process, haha. What other school have you applied to as well, if you don't mind me asking?

I applied for fall 2014 and was waitlisted. However, depending on the outcome of the waitlist, I will reapply for spring. By the time, the deadline rolls around, I would have completed all of the prereqs and hopefully gotten all As and I may even retake the TEAS for a higher score, which would help me feel like a more confident applicant! However, I'm praying hard and living by faith that a spot will be available for me for Fall 2014.

The Spring 2015 application isn't up yet

bcandygurl - it is up!!

I was wait listed this semester but I've already completed my app for spring 2015 just in case.

happymochi! :^) First off, love love your username (haha ever heard of Tamako Market?) Actually, I haven't applied yet. I'm planning to in either June or July, depending on how my TEAS goes on the 30th. (Wish me luck!) Also, yes you can turn in all of your documents after you've applied online. I went to an information session last year, and they said it'd be a wise idea to send in all of your information via mail the next day after application. For me, I don't really trust the mail service around here, so I'm turning it in at the Baltimore campus' drop-box to make sure everything arrives on time haha! Anyway, hope this helps. And, I hope I see all of you as well next Spring!

littlemango!

haha thank you! mochi is so yummy, isn't it? funny enough i have heard of tamako market! the show, right? i think i saw like an episode or two because of my sister. anyway, i'm pretty much in the same boat as you then. i'm planning to apply june or july as well, but i'm thinking about taking the TEAS in August. do you think that'd be okay? i don't want to submit materials too late in the game.. hm. and yeah, that's a good idea to swing by the campus to drop off materials. i'm actually planning on attending the info session on may 21st -- pretty excited and incredibly nervous. but i'm sure everything will be fine. good luck to you! i hope to meet you next spring, too!

Does anyone have information on the RN-BSN options..I'm debating whether to do the program online or hybrid. I do better learning face to face; however, I plan to continue working full time.
