OK, so the rules have changed, and CPD is no longer enough.
I'm wondering about how to achieve the "reflective discussion" part when there are no UK registered nurses where I work.
So, all expat Brits, please let me know how you plan to maintain your NMC registration. Is anyone agreeable to contacting me, with a view to maybe planning an email/Skype discussion that we both can document?
I'm in Chicago btw, so if there are any other UK nurses here, we can meet in Panera instead : )

I live in Australia but my parents live in the uk still. Guess I never know if I will have to go back.
If you are struggling to find someone to do the reflective part with happy to help out.good luck with your decision

Email sent. Thanks
I'm having real problems trying to come up with topics for the reflective studies this year.
Inevitably all the challenges have related to covid, but how can I write it without it being critical of the lack of PPE, staffing and isolation facilities?
My manager will need to sign it off as the confirmer so I don't want it to read as critical, but how do I write it so its OK?
Try to balance it with something positive. (See it's easy if you just say it quick.??) Sorry, I could not resist.
But, there must have been something that was good or well done. How about communication with family of a covid patient? Communicating with and reassuring a patient with covid? Helping to keep each others morale up?
I know it's easy for me because I don't need to do this any more but nurses have done amazing stuff over the past year, let people know about it.
Good luck.
ETA Just had a thought, what about teaching newer staff about care of covid patients , how to turn ventilated patients etc.
Try using the Gibbs framework.
https://workingwellsolutions.com/reflection-gibbs-model-applied-example/
1. First write down the facts -lack of PPE etc.
2. Then how this made you feel - personal risk, risk to patients, compromised nursing practice
3. Then the impact - for example: continued to work as to not work would have compromised patients even more, used what strategies you could to prevent spread such as social distancing and changing from uniform as soon as you got home so as not to put family at risk
4. Analysis- what did you learn from this for example: in a global emergency you may not always be able to maintain your usual standards but that you can find other ways to work to give the best care possible in the situation
5. Conclusion- for example:what did you put into action that would help reduce the impact of this situation if it should arise in the future- this could be something like being supportive to management who were also struggling to manage this situation or volunteering to nurse COVID patients for nurses who had health conditions that would put them at risk of complications from COVID until you got PPE
6. How you would apply your knew knowledge in the future for example: can you apply to be on the risk management team or support your manager to stockpile PPE for the future.
Using this framework you can tell the truth but you can also show that you can learn from adversity and have a plan to go forward. Please note that I am only guessing at what happened or what you might have taken from the situation.
Dear all,
I was registerd nurse in the UK back in 2014, and my NMC has lapsed in 2017. I live in China at the moment. I have applied re-admission, so far I have passed CBT, awaiting to get my OSCE done. I have facing few issues here, wonder if anyone would help out?
1. I have tried to apply job through NHS jobs and few agencies, so far none of hospitals have answered back. And few agencies stated that I need to have minium one year working experience, which I only have 7 months after qualified. So it doesn't seem to be very uplifting at moment.
2. I have also registered on COVID-19 temperatory registeration, the reply was as I am currently not reside in UK, so I am not eligibale to this
3. So I thought about taking the return back course, apparently I can't do it as you have to reside in UK as well.
4. So now I come back to re-admission requirement, counted all my practice hours before my PIN lapsed, I just realised that I do meet the requirement hours, so now I think maybe I will withdraw my pervious application and re-apply, however, my NMC online portal wouldn't let me do anything, I can't even withdraw my application.
Sorry for such long post, can anyone here help me out what option is there left for me, or should I just give up the idea of rejoin the practice.
I am hitting on the wall here, really wish someone here can point me out a direction please?
Many thanks to all.

I echo the thoughts above about weighing up how likely you are to ever need to work in the UK again.
I've been gone 20 years but have maintained my UK registration, even since they introduced this painfully stupid revalidation. I unexpectedly had to return to the UK for a family problem that dragged on. I needed an income and with a valid registration I picked up agency work in Manchester and Bolton no problem. The re-admission process would have been too long and too cumbersome if I hadn't maintained my registration and I'd have been looking at poorly paid bar work or what have you.
I'm now thinking of letting it lapse but only because as I approach retirement and with no close family or ties of any sort left in the UK, I am sure I will never want to work in the UK again. If you are not sure of that, maintain your registration.
