  1. Hi Joanne, What country are you in. I am happy to help but I am in Australia so the time zone can be difficult. Tracy
  2. Look forward to receiving them. Tracy
  3. Hi Regina, I can help with your reflective discussions. Your line manager can sign off on your hours and CPD. They do not need to be UKCC registered. I am in Australia so the time difference will make it a little tricky. If no one from your hemisphere volunteers feel free to email me. [email protected] Best wishes, Tracy
  4. Hi Tomoko, I am in Australia. Time difference- your evening is my mid morning. I am happy to complete the reflection if you cannot find anyone in NY. Just as a note of interest to everyone undertaking revalidation when overseas. I decided at the last minute to revalidate for another 3 years(on the day it was due). I went on line and completed the extension request and got a two month extension in less than an hour. It can be difficult to find anyone to revalidate when you are overseas so this may be of help to those who are struggling. Tracy,
  5. Hi, I am in Victoria and happy to help. I also need to revalidate at the end of the year so perhaps we could kill two birds with one stone. Please email me to organise a time if you wish. [email protected]
  6. I am an academic with a Masters but I still work clinically as I believe it is essential to ensure my teaching is grounded in the real world. I would expect that other desk jobs would also benefit from employing nurses with real life experience. If you don't like nursing then perhaps the skills and knowledge you have gained so far are transferable to another career.
  7. TheUK have madeit almost impossible to re register. A nurse on this forum was in a similar situation during the pandemic when they were crying out for nurses. The board were no help and kept giving a standard reply. All I can suggest is that you find a prospective employer and get them to lobby for you to be re registered. I have maintained my registration for 30 years in case I need to return. This really is a ridiculous situation for nurses who are working and maintaining competencies fot the country in which tbey live. Good luck. Tracy
  8. There does not seem to be anyway around this. Perhaps you need to apply at a local university and complete your nursing course in China. You may get some credit for study already done which will bring down the cost and the time. I know it is not ideal but perhaps this is the only way to have a career in nursing.
  9. Sounds like when I moved to Australia. Needed to show my visa to get registration but could not get a visa until I was registered. You would not think they are crying about a shortage of nurses. Read the international recruitment section of this report. https://www.nuffieldtrust.org.uk/files/2019-03/heaj6708-workforce-full-report-web.pdf#page=89 They actually say the RCN should make it easier for international nurses. Perhaps an option for you may be a recruiter. Someone on this forum may be able to recommend an agency. Tracy
  10. Hi Yoko, The UK have made it extremely difficult to get back onto the register which is why so many of us are holding onto registration and paying the yearly fee. I think your best bet is to phone them and explain your situation. The nurses on this forum will help with revalidation but can not help with the UK online portal. Best wishes, Tracy
  11. Try using the Gibbs framework. https://workingwellsolutions.com/reflection-gibbs-model-applied-example/ 1. First write down the facts -lack of PPE etc. 2. Then how this made you feel - personal risk, risk to patients, compromised nursing practice 3. Then the impact - for example: continued to work as to not work would have compromised patients even more, used what strategies you could to prevent spread such as social distancing and changing from uniform as soon as you got home so as not to put family at risk 4. Analysis- what did you learn from this for example: in a global emergency you may not always be able to maintain your usual standards but that you can find other ways to work to give the best care possible in the situation 5. Conclusion- for example:what did you put into action that would help reduce the impact of this situation if it should arise in the future- this could be something like being supportive to management who were also struggling to manage this situation or volunteering to nurse COVID patients for nurses who had health conditions that would put them at risk of complications from COVID until you got PPE 6. How you would apply your knew knowledge in the future for example: can you apply to be on the risk management team or support your manager to stockpile PPE for the future. Using this framework you can tell the truth but you can also show that you can learn from adversity and have a plan to go forward. Please note that I am only guessing at what happened or what you might have taken from the situation.
  12. Due to border restrictions I am currently stuck in NSW. But with zoom I can be anywhere. Tracy. Just checking Jenine that you are sorted with someone to do your reflection. Tracy.
