I am in the usvi, and have been here nearly a year, maybe all the nurses who have posted their news about immigration, can now post about the differences in the us hospitals. I dont think that american doctors and nurses fully understand where we come from, and the working environment of the nhs, its only when we get here that we can understand the differences. I am sure that stateside hospitals are different even from here. and that they also vary from state to state, but maybe nurses who are waiting to come will be able to pick up some tips and know more than us what to expect.
christine....from wales to scotland to united states virgin islands, and then to the states, in january.
i think they are just planning ahead, i havnt had my I-140 yet! should be here quite soon though, they have said about november time, we will see!they have given me an expected travel date as august next year, thats if it all goes smoothly but i tend to take what they say with a pinch of salt really, anyway house going on market once I-140 is here, it will be interesting to see what the next 12 months brings

You are at the very begining then? I got my I-140 in early April and I am still waiting for my US interview date, I have communicated with the embassy and they assure me it will be nov/dec time, but wont hear until after the middle of OCT. I f I dont hear by then then I wont hear until after middle of nov.I am in contact with somebody who pased NCLEX in march and still hasn't got her I 140 yet I think there may be a delay.
PS It is not long since I got my job at St Jo's probably 6-8 weeks ago, after my packet 3 was sent for. This is a good thread where you can see what everybody's said about timehttps://allnurses.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102244
yes i suppose i am at the beginning but it seems like alot of water has passed under the bridge since signing last november!
I140 times have increased alot i looked at vermont and they are processing march applications at the moment- looks like i am a long way off yet!

Is it vermont where OGP use?
at the moment but they said that they might file my papers at texas also if it appears to be quicker-according to the website texas are ahead by a couple of months at the moment!
I always thought that they had to file with the office that supports their area of base and they would come under vermont so therefore have to file with them
That is one of the main reasons for the delay with Vermont. Some agencies and other emplyers have not been on the up and up and have been processing there when the nurse would not be working in that area. The agency is supposed to peition where they are located, not pick and choose. Many are in the process of getting hands slapped by immigration for that, as well as the falsified documents that have been coming out of Manila. Everyhting is slowed down because of this.
They make it worse for everyone else.

firstly i have a question for you, have you completed theory and clinical hours in mental health, maternity and childrens nursing? if not you will find it very difficult to obtain these hours and therefore be unable to practice in the usa

the problem at the moment is UK nurse training is specialised and for US you need to be generalised so your training is very much against you. Do a search on here and the international forum as it has been looked at a lot recently.
If you do qualify to work out there you are looking at a minimum of 12 months process once you have qualified and therefore pay ect will have changed. Also a lot depends on which state you want to live/work
