Hello. I recently attended the UCSF MEPN information session and I am really excited about the program. I am still finishing my pre-reqs and I want to be as ready as possible. Anyone else out there looking to apply for 2019?
Also,I would love any advice on rounding out my application for PMHNP.
Stats:
Undergrad theater major 3.3, Science and Pre-reqs (prob) 3.7
GRE Verb 48th %tile Quant 30th %tile Analytical 18th %tile
Work Exp: 10 useless years in the film business and then 3 years Admin at private practice and hospital
Volunteer: UCLA nursing, Suicide Crisis Hotline, Veteran's Administration Domicilliary
LOR: Prob only 4 really great ones. Is not sending 5 a bad idea?
I would love to hear from you!
It feels like December is such a long time away but at the same time I know time will go by fast. How was the summer quarter? How many classes did you guys have to take and was it just classes or did you start clinicals as well?
It does feel like forever. I long for December, too, as that is when half of us will be done with the medical-surgical rotation. The program has been intense and the summer quarter especially so. We took three classes in the summer quarter, four if you count our skills lab which is actually integrated in our foundations/intro to nursing course but feels much like its own class (it did for me anyway). We started clinical fairly quickly in the summer.
Thanks pckillmonger! I'm doing okay here, I'm seeing everyone who has applied is now waiting to get a response back from UCSF! I can totally understand the nerve-wracking(sp?) feeling of waiting for an answer. rooting for you all!
Thanks! I've been focusing on work until next month, the wait is killing me slowly lol
Hi! I am a fourth year undergrad from UC Berkeley, studying molecular & cell biology. I'm interested in applying for UCSF's MEPN program sometime next year (UCSF's policy is that you have to wait a year after graduating to apply for this program anyway) and would love any tips/pointers about anything (application process, specialties, etc.)My ultimate goal is to become an oncology/clinical trial nurse practitioner, but unfortunately, oncology specialty is not available to MEPN applicants, so I'm not sure if I want to pursue an FNP or AGCNP. Has anyone heard of non-oncology specialized NPs working in oncology clinics?
There are multiple APRN's that work on the heme/onc unit at UCSF. I don't think any of them are onc CNS. Most are fnp, agnp and one psych np I believe. Do what is most exciting for you, but I'd pick the license that allows for the most flexibility...you may not be able to predict exactly where you want to work at this point in time. Good luck!

A nervous wreck lol. How many people do you know got into your specialty? And how were interviews?
