UCSF MEPN 2019

Published

Hello. I recently attended the UCSF MEPN information session and I am really excited about the program. I am still finishing my pre-reqs and I want to be as ready as possible. Anyone else out there looking to apply for 2019?

Also,I would love any advice on rounding out my application for PMHNP.

Stats:

Undergrad theater major 3.3, Science and Pre-reqs (prob) 3.7

GRE Verb 48th %tile Quant 30th %tile Analytical 18th %tile

Work Exp: 10 useless years in the film business and then 3 years Admin at private practice and hospital

Volunteer: UCLA nursing, Suicide Crisis Hotline, Veteran's Administration Domicilliary

LOR: Prob only 4 really great ones. Is not sending 5 a bad idea?

I would love to hear from you!

Hi! I have been following this thread and appreciate the useful information provided. I too got an interview and I am so excited! Congratulations to everyone and now on to the next step!

I have my interview on January 18th!

Does anyone know if UCSF is known for giving out a lot of scholarships/grants? And did anyone else apply for the Health Policy Nursing track?

Congrats to everyone who got an interview!

I was rejected for FNP unfortunately. If people don't mind sharing, I'd love to know more about those who were invited for an interview. I want to figure out what was weak about my application before I apply again.

Hey everyone! I received an interview invitation today via email around 3 o'clock for the PNP specialty on January 25th!

I received an invitation to interview for this day also! What specialty are you interviewing for? I am doing APHN

Jk, you said PNP. How exciting! Don't know what to do, I feel like I've been waiting so long to hear about this and now I can't believe it's happening!

Not sure, I am wondering about financial aid as well. I am interviewing for public health specialty!

Congrats to everyone who got an interview!

Thank you, Vicksburg! What exactly kind of information were you looking for?

UCSF has a site for scholarships:

You could also check out the VA, the NHSC, and Nursecorps.

Vicksburg- we all have such different experiences and expectations. I read in previous threads that lots of times UCSF likes for people to reapply to show that they are serious. I applied last year and did not get an interview. This past year I worked really hard to fill what I thought was my weakness. I thought it was to spend more time with my target demographic- which is women, as I am applying for CN/WHNP. This year when I reread my goal and personal statement from last year, I realized that there was a big shift and I had lot grown a lot. As a result I wrote about life experiences that made me who I am and have motivated me to keep pursing this course, which I thought I did last time- but I only skimmed the surface. I wrote about things that I don't like to talk about. I reviewed writings that I kept over the past year where I wrote about the experience of the women I worked with and I used those in my statements. My statements are so different one can tell a different people wrote person wrote them. Last year I felt like the application was easy, everything fell into place. This year it was really hard, I felt like I had to work for everything. I hope that this was of some help. You know what UCSF is looking for- so keep doing those things.

We still have to get through the interview, decisions, and if we are lucky figuring out how to paying for it. The next few months will be rough with the uncertainty, but there is also the dream to keep us going. And that dream is why you will apply again when you are ready. Good luck!

Hi prospective MEPNs! I'm a current MEPN, FNP track. I know how nerve-racking this time of year can be (at least it was for me a year ago). Please let me know if you'd like any insights for the interview day. We have a nice chunk of nothing for the next few weeks, and I'm happy to help!
