UCSF MEPN 2019

Published

Hello. I recently attended the UCSF MEPN information session and I am really excited about the program. I am still finishing my pre-reqs and I want to be as ready as possible. Anyone else out there looking to apply for 2019?

Also,I would love any advice on rounding out my application for PMHNP.

Stats:

Undergrad theater major 3.3, Science and Pre-reqs (prob) 3.7

GRE Verb 48th %tile Quant 30th %tile Analytical 18th %tile

Work Exp: 10 useless years in the film business and then 3 years Admin at private practice and hospital

Volunteer: UCLA nursing, Suicide Crisis Hotline, Veteran's Administration Domicilliary

LOR: Prob only 4 really great ones. Is not sending 5 a bad idea?

I would love to hear from you!

Congrats on submitting :-) I'm hoping to submit mine by tomorrow... I know Steven said to turn it in as early as we can, but I keep making never-ending revisions to my statements lol

uGH RIGHT! I'm still finishing up my personal hx, but everything else is done. Hope to have this finished by tomorrow.

I also think my personal hx statement is gonna hit three pages, hopefully it's succint enough.

Planning on submitting mine tonight! Good luck!!!

Use a smaller font if you can lol. I did like 10 pt font and managed to fit everything into 2 pages :)

I feel like if I was an application reader I would be more annoyed by a small, nonstandard font than a paper that went a bit over two pages. It says "approximately two pages" for the personal statement anyways, so it's not a hard rule.

Goal statement has to be two, personal hx can be as long as you want but keep it succinct. Also, they can always use zoom to read the file, looked large enough to me; depends on the font tbh. I also finally submitted!

I know the GRE isn't required, but is anyone planning on sending their score anyways?

I wouldn't bother, less stress on your plate!

Hi! I am a fourth year undergrad from UC Berkeley, studying molecular & cell biology. I'm interested in applying for UCSF's MEPN program sometime next year (UCSF's policy is that you have to wait a year after graduating to apply for this program anyway) and would love any tips/pointers about anything (application process, specialties, etc.)

My ultimate goal is to become an oncology/clinical trial nurse practitioner, but unfortunately, oncology specialty is not available to MEPN applicants, so I'm not sure if I want to pursue an FNP or AGCNP. Has anyone heard of non-oncology specialized NPs working in oncology clinics?

Have you seen this from the UCSF School of Nursing website?

"There are two sub-specialization tracks: Adult Gerontology CNS- Oncology and Adult Gerontology CNS-Critical Care Trauma. The AG CNS-Oncology subspecialty is open to MEPN applicants, but a one year step out is required after completing the pre-licensure, and before entering the MS portion of the program."

Also, haven't heard anything about taking a year out after undergrad before applying to MEPN. We have a 22 year old in our cohort/the youngest person. She just graduated before starting MEPN.

How is everyone holding up? I remember the time after submitting my application and waiting for an interview invite as being the hardest for me last year.

We just finished our grueling summer quarter and have a two week break so if there are any questions that you have, I'm happy to help.

Best of luck to all!

It feels like December is such a long time away but at the same time I know time will go by fast.

How was the summer quarter? How many classes did you guys have to take and was it just classes or did you start clinicals as well?
