UCLA MECN Fall 2014?

Published

Hi- Is anyone applying to UCLA's MECN program for next fall?

Specializes in Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner.
I found this post in the UCLA 2014 MSN thread: "I am happy to elaborate a little more as I recently heard from an inside resource at the SON. Decisions have been already made however there are around 1000 applicants (total for all programs) each year, and each of these applicants are notified by each program at the same time as the rest of the applicants in the program (regardless of admittance/rejection). PhD is done first, then BSN, then MECN, then APN. The MECN program is still adjusting to growth spurts/pains as I discussed earlier; they've increased by 50% in recent years. There is a team of people who stuff envelopes and assemble packets and organize everything, and it's been confirmed that there is one less person this year (due to popping a baby out of her vajay - no, the SON didn't "plan" for this when they accepted apps last fall), so this has contributed to an additional delay. I am still getting info that APNs will be notified this year around 2nd-3rd week of April. Relying on historical dates is not advised this year; the game is different from past years."[/quote']

As I understand it, the SON already knows who is getting accepted--it's a matter to sending out all notices at once. That's why there's a delay. They notify applicants simultaneously, and so with only two people doing the process, it takes longer. At least that's what I gathered from the other thread.

However, either way-- if I were getting accepted or rejected-- I'd wish they'd update the website with rejections and then send out the acceptances later. False hope sucks.

Could not agree more @Get2theChoppa!! If, in fact, they already know, they should let those rejected off the hook so they can move on and start making other plans for their life. :bored: 5 months should be sufficient to know who they're denying, don't you think?

Seemingly silly question but I can't seem to find the answer right now

Does anyone know the actual date classes would start? Or when epidemiology would start and how often we would need to go to class or if it's online? Trying to decide (if best case scenario) when I would have to leave work. Thank you!

Hey uclatrueblue, I found a 2014 academic calendar for UCLA here: Calendars: Academic & Administrative 2014-2015. I'm not sure if the calendar is valid for all programs, but at least it's a rough idea. Looks like fall quarter starts September 29.

FYI: the MECN program always starts the last week of September, usually on the first Monday of the quarter. So plan on that. Also, there is a mandatory new MECN orientation (from 8-4p ish) the last week of July; in past years it has been July 29th or 30th. You can't miss this as you do badge photo, uniform fittings, etc. So plan on that too.

Hey everyone, I'm applying for the MEPN program this coming fall and wanted to ask those of you that we're accepted for some stats on your class (cum gpa, prerequisite gpa, volunteer and work experience etc.). It would be a great help! UCLA is my top choice, and I want to make sure my stats measure up :) Congratulations to all of you that got in! I hope to be in your shoes soon. Thank you!

@halliesf

Haha ok my dear,

The designation of your top nursing program should occur after exploring and researching it in order to ensure that it’s a good fit for you. Scour past UCLA MECN threads, attend the Information Session offered, and speak to alumni if you can.

Anywho, when you peruse this thread thoroughly, you’ll realize that acceptances haven’t gone out yet, and that it’s MECN not MEPN.

Good luck to you!

Seriously though, what is going on? Has anyone heard anything?

::the calm before the storm:: No news on my end or anyone else I know who applied.

none…..zip…..*tumbleweed*

i had a dream last night that I got into UCLA. Q_Q

so ready to find out!
