UCLA MECN Fall 2014?

Published

Hi- Is anyone applying to UCLA's MECN program for next fall?

Specializes in Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner.

I found this post in the UCLA 2014 MSN thread:

"I am happy to elaborate a little more as I recently heard from an inside resource at the SON. Decisions have been already made, however there are around 1000 applicants (total for all programs) each year, and each of these applicants are notified by each program at the same time as the rest of the applicants in the program (regardless of admittance/rejection). PhD is done first, then BSN, then MECN, then APN. The MECN program is still adjusting to growth spurts/pains as I discussed earlier; they've increased by 50% in recent years. There is a team of people who stuff envelopes and assemble packets and organize everything, and it's been confirmed that there is one less person this year (due to popping a baby out of her vajay - no, the SON didn't "plan" for this when they accepted apps last fall), so this has contributed to an additional delay. I am still getting info that APNs will be notified this year around 2nd-3rd week of April. Relying on historical dates is not advised this year; the game is different from past years."

hi guys,

I know you are all waiting to hear from the school on your admission. I will be a senior in college in this upcoming school year and i am very interested in the MECN program at UCLA. Does anyone have any tips for writing the personal statement? And what experiences do you have doing this application? Also does anyone know when application starts for the program? I know the deadline is November 1 but I don't know when the application actually starts.

So does that mean the application status online has been recently changed? Can someone bravely enough to check it? :)

I really think there is a very slim chance we will hear this month. If we are "third" in line to hear - do we know if Doctoral or BSN have heard yet?

I just checked...no change.

Same I just checked too.. No change haha

no change here either. I bet we aren't going to hear until next month. Spring Break means campus is closed and admissions is definitely taking a break. lol.

I don't know what I believe and don't believe in this thread however, it is finals week and next week is spring break. I heard they probably wouldn't be working on this over spring break but I am not sure why. It's not like staff is forced to take vacation during this time. In fact, it is probably a pretty busy time gearing up for the new quarter. I would think it's a break for the students but not the staff. Then again, I am speculating. Hang in there peeps :-)

I work on campus and we don't get spring break...I wish! If anything it's just a break from students/professors from bothering us from our jobs. Hahahah. I think we will hear back in April like they've stated.

Usually no one works when the campus is officially closed. It's a break for everyone. I would personally want to take a break if I was looking at 600 applications on top of other work duties. I would guess an official posted decision is made onsite through their system and requires them to physically be on campus. Mid-April seems more realistic for decisions to be made. Next week is spring break which means today is the last day for finals, trust me everyones gonna go out for a drink including staff.

I've worked in an office at a university previously and our office definitely did not close during spring break. We actually got a lot done during that time, because students were not coming in! So, I would assume those making the admissions decisions would be taking advantage of the quiet and getting some headway on these applications.

When I was in school at CSU Fullerton All offices were closed at the time of official breaks. It's a state school so maybe that has something to do with it. I've never worked in an admissions office so I don't know first hand. But, who knows. It's probably different for UC's but I still wouldn't bank of them working through the break....( i'm hoping they prove me wrong)
