UCLA MECN Fall 2014?

Published

Hi- Is anyone applying to UCLA's MECN program for next fall?

Just want to confirm - I emailed admissions today and heard we'd hear admissions decisions "hopefully by mid-April." D'OH!!!

Hello everyone! I am a 2nd year MECN and know that the waiting is excruciatingly painful. I was wait-listed and was offered admission the week the program started! (Hence if you are wait-listed don't lose hope) I just wanted to say that I spoke to someone today in the admissions office and through casual conversation you guys came up. They are really working so hard to get out your admissions status its really only 2 people doing the work that should be done by like 4 people. I can vouch for them I see their hard work in person! If i could help them I would but can't! I know for some of you this sucks b/c you have decisions to make and for that I'm sorry . Good luck to all of you! Being in the MECN program has been the BEST roller coaster ride of my life!

Do you know who are the ones actually reading the apps by chance?

@bruin2010 so this is how i believe it works, there is a committee that selects 2 designated faculty members per applicant that is required to read and score applications and than i believe your composite application goes to the admissions office and from there I have no clue what happens. Its is a complete mystery how they select us but needless to say everyone in my cohort is amazing!

I understand that there are only 2 people processing our applications, but applications were due Nov.1st! They could have found more people to help within those few months after. This waiting game is killing me...I also got put on the alternate list for WesternU but Im really hoping for good news from UCLA. I feel so bad for all of you that have been accepted to other programs and are waiting on UCLA to make a decision. I cant imagine what I would do.

I hope they speed up the process though!! Mid to late April seems like fooooorever!

Do you know if anyone of you who got accepted despite of having a C from one of the preqs? I am confident with my undergrad gpa including my last 60 units as well as my LORs and statement of purpose. Additionally, I have enough amount of research experience as I am still a research assistant at UCI. I also have pretty good direct patient contact experience. However, that C I took in my early years of college screwed me over :(

Oh I'm a research assistant too! Sorry I just totally saw research assistant and got excited but anyways I think as long as you are confident that your LORs and a statement of purpose is strong I think you should be fine since we don't know exactly what they are looking for. It seems like you have a lot of experience too which is always a great thing...

I got into UCI's BSN program with 1 C. UCI requires at least B's in all prereqs not taken at UCI. I got a C first semester and an A second semester of General Chemistry at a CC. They just told me that they averaged the 2 grades for an overall B in GenChem.

I think you should be fine. They look at the application holistically. Grades aren't everything and that's what I've learned when I applied to UCLA as an undergrad and got in with grades significantly lower than the average. I feel like especially at UCLA, the personal statement is super important, in addition to the LOR. So I wouldn't stress too much over the grades. Anything can happen.

I had a C in one of my pre-reqs like others said they look at your application as a whole!

I talked to someone who has been e - mailing me about my application, and he said I would here by April! But that was a week ago...? did something change since then?

What I'm guessing is that since spring break is next week...maybe decisions will be made by tomorrow but won't be sent out until the week after next? That would make sense right? Perhaps the staff were super busy because it's finals week. Haha. Gahh...hate the waiting game!

Just wondering, @pedsnursepassion what's a typical week like in the MECN program? :)
