UCLA MECN Fall 2014?

Published

Hi- Is anyone applying to UCLA's MECN program for next fall?

I got waitlist for western and turned it down...too expensive in my opinion. I'm actually glad there wasn't an interview process. I like how simple the application process was for UCLA. Like many of you, my undergrad GPA was average. But I hope my personal statement and my LOR will make up for it.

I honestly feel like applications are crap shoots. I know someone who applied to UCLA with a 4.0, had volunteering experience, and was in a considerable amount of clubs in undergrad. She got denied. I don't know what she wrote in her personal statement so maybe that's where she faltered. But a CSU accepted her as well as Western so it seems there's no rhyme or reason. Everyone ends up where they should..eventually. I feel you guys with the GPA's, mine is just average and not something to brag about. I'm hoping I at least make the wait list..which is wishful thinking with 600 applicants.

@bruin2010 - I agree that WU is extremely expensive! I do hope to avoid that much debt!

@morganw1 - Could not have said it better myself. Sometimes it comes down to what one person thinks of your application!

I am thankful that I have been accepted to at least one program at this point - I have had a hard time shifting my mindset from "hoping to go to nursing school" to "I am going to nursing school!".

I emailed yesterday to update my mailing address and received an email back this morning confirming and the email also said I will hear my admission status mid to late April. Might be quite a bit longer! Thankfully I have been accepted to a couple other programs but it's frustrating that deposits are due before I will hear back!

Oh no. :( thanks for the update though!

Mid to late April? :x3:

Right? #redonkulous

Mid-late April?!?! The deposit for USD is due April 2!! I'm enrolled in one last prerequisite unique to USD too. Was hoping I'd know for sure if I had to take it or not before the class actually started. But I guess the $1000+$400 is worth the risk... :scrying: UCLA's tuition is a fraction of the price of USD anyway.

If MECN is mid to late April... MSN-AP can be pushed back to May! Can we pool in money so they can hire an extra person to help with apps? Jk. #butseriously

Unbelievable. Shoot. Me. Now. :dead:

Not knowing is the worst. I also feel convinced that I don't stand a chance of getting in. Any hope and morale I had has completely diminished :(

To me this is a red flag.....I understand someone is out on maternity leave, but geesh - there is a heads up there (9 months advanced notice!). They could have asked someone else to assist, especially when they know in NOV that there are 500 to 600 applicants. They could also let those that for sure do not make the cut know now....so we can move forward with our lives.

If my other school does not notify this week (they said next week, but was hopeful it would be earlier) then I am putting the deposit down on WU and taking my chances!!

Sorry folks this has been so painful. I know there are many of you that this is your #1 choice - I really hope they can notify sooner than anytime in April.
