TWU Spring 2013 Applicants!

Published

Hello!:yeah:

I know it's pretty early to be starting this forum, but I just wanted to put my voice out there and see if there is anyone else out there hoping to join TWU's nursing program in the spring of 2013? What are you taking this semester (spring 2012), and when are you taking the TEAS-V entrance exam?

After this spring semester of taking microbiology, chemistry, developmental psychology, and statistics, I'll be ready to apply before the September 1st deadline! I'm hoping to take the entrance exam in the summer - probably June or July.

So yeah, I just wanted to see who else was out there!

Hey MissTexas! I'm applying to UTHSCH-H as well! Have you taken your HESI-A2?

Hey! No, I haven't. I need to decide soon whether or not I am going to apply for the Spring semester UTHSC. I will literally have like 3 weeks to study for the HESI and Im not sure if thats enough time. Also, I'm taking 16 credits in the fall (medical micro, engl 2, history 2, gov't 1, phil) so I'm debating whether or not I should split up my semester because I'm afraid with so many credits it may distract me from getting an "A" in micro. IDK...!! lol

Thanks heyjude91, I take my test at 2! I'm so excited and ready to get it over with!!! :)

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!! HOPE YOU DO GREAT!! :w00t:

Do you think three weeks is enough time to study for the HESI? I am applying to UTHSCH for spring 2013 and after my summer class I will have a total of 3 weeks to study for the HESI. Thoughts? Otherwise I can take it in towards January, giving me close to a month. For the Feb deadline for fall 2013.

Ack, I'm in the same boat. Summer classes not allowing me to study for the HESI. Where are you taking your classes? If you can get a good professor for microbiology, it makes ALL the difference! You've got the motivation, so keep up, you can do it! I'm slowly losing mine, so I'm trying to stay active on this site so I can savor whatever I have left.

I did a LOT of studying for the TEAS, do you think I'll have to study much more for the HESI? I know there's part of it we can't study for, but other than that it can't be that different from the TEAS, can it?

I am sitting next to my friend Lanie...she has a question for y'all!

Hey girls. I am trying to apply for the Spring semester along with all the other hopefuls. However, I just decided that nursing is the path I wanted to take. Unfortunately I have a C in A&P 2 and a few other C's on my record. Does this totally disqualify me? I have an A in Stat and A&P 1 and a a fairly decent GPA. I take the TEAS next week. Any advice? Thanks, I should register for this site. - Lanie

Howdy! Welcome to the site! As long as you have a 3.0 in your nursing core classes, you can apply. They don't look at your overall GPA, just certain classes they call the nursing core, which can be found on the website. They strongly recommend that you try hardest in A&P I, II, Microbiology, and Statistics, because if you make A's on your first attempts in those classes, you get extra bumps on your application. You also get extra bumps if you have a bachelors degree already, and a .4 bump added to your GPA if you go to TWU for 32+ hours before you apply. I definitely recommend applying, because you never know what exactly they are looking for! Good luck!

@Erica92 Did you say you are applying for Fall of 2013? So you are taking the TEAS now as practice? Because you will be able to take it again during that application period. And I took mine on a Thursday and they gave us results the next day. Just check your email.

@heyjude91 No i'm not taking it for practice, but I just finished the nutrition course a couple weeks ago, and now besides Statistics I'm core complete. I was planning to apply for Spring 2013 at first, but I'm not finished with the 32 hours @ TWU so I was forced to stay in Denton another semester just for that. I was either 3 or 6 credits short. It sucks but the .4 bump is worth it. That's great to hear!!! I thought I was gonna have to wait 4 days to see my score. Now i'm super nervous. :uhoh3:

Sooo....I took my TEAS today and unfortunately have to wait up to 48 hrs to get my results. My thoughts: I studied for the TEAS a little over 2 weeks non-stop, reading the study guide from front to back, along with taking the two practice tests online and timed myself taking the practice tests in the back of the book. I don't want to guess on how I did because I may be wrong. To me, it was very different than the practice tests in the book and somewhat like the online practice tests. The questions were worded a lot different, I guess I thought it would be more similar to the online practice tests. I made an 82% on both of those. I did run out of time on the reading and math with 4 questions left but they only grade 150 out of 170 questions, so I hope that doesn't hurt me too much. There were a lot of questions that had two REALLY good answers that I wasn't sure between but I'll just cross my fingers until I get the results.

To those of you planning to take the HESI: I thought it was much easier because it wasn't as general as the science section on the TEAS. The TEAS is everything from Chemistry, Life science, A&P, etc. I thought that aspect made it harder to study for because it is SO broad. There were some questions that the material was not in the study guide also. The HESI has Chemistry, ONLY A&P! The Critical Thinking part did require some thinking but like someone else advised, just think about the A, B, C's ( Airway, Breathing, and Circulation) when answering the questions, because they are all about patient scenerios and ask what would you do 1st? A, B, C, or D. The study guide for the HESI is also much thinner than the TEAS and that includes Physics and Chemistry sections (WHICH YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE). I put this in bold because when you go to take your test, the testing center expects you to know which sections you need to take for your school. You can pick which order to do them in but then again, don't get confused because Chemistry, Physics, and Biology will be open to take BUT UTHSC only requires the Reading, English, Math, and A&P sections.

Hope this helps!:D

Also, if I confused anyone, just ask for clarification. I left out the word "NO" when talking about Chemistry on the HESI. Sorry, I was typing too fast and my brain feels like it is fried from taking that test today!

Haha that's exactly how my brain felt after taking the TEAS! I felt like I was a walking zombie all day afterwards (I took my at 9am!). But isn't it a great feeling to be done with it now?! Crossing my fingers for you!! Keep us updated :D

Hi All!

I've been following this thread for a while and wanted to ask if anyone is applying to Baylor as well? I'll be taking my TEAS V test for TWU in a couple of weeks and am pretty anxious about it. I'm in stats right now and it is rough! I was also wondering if anyone is going to be taking patho at the Dallas campus?
