Hello!
I know it's pretty early to be starting this forum, but I just wanted to put my voice out there and see if there is anyone else out there hoping to join TWU's nursing program in the spring of 2013? What are you taking this semester (spring 2012), and when are you taking the TEAS-V entrance exam?
After this spring semester of taking microbiology, chemistry, developmental psychology, and statistics, I'll be ready to apply before the September 1st deadline! I'm hoping to take the entrance exam in the summer - probably June or July.
So yeah, I just wanted to see who else was out there!
Hey hopefuls!I was accepted into the Dallas program and will be starting once fall begins. From personal experience, I'd just like to point out a couple things that might help those who are new to the application process (or is just as confused as I once was!). If there are any other questions you may have about something that I may have missed, feel free to message me and I'll be happy to answer!
Thank you SO much for this post! You made me feel a lot better because I only have 2/4 A's bumps as well! Congrats on getting in and good luck!!!
Thanks Voldemort for the input!I also wanted to add, that I've been through the application process when I applied to UTHSC for the Fall 2012 start. It was so nerve racking and I thought that UT was the ONLY school I wanted to go to. My stats were great, had a 94% on the HESI, and worked my butt off by squeezing my remaining 17 hrs in the Spring semester! I have three kids and gave up my job to be able to focus on school. Well, I got a denial letter from UT and my husband's job started slowing down considerable to the point that we were struggling to pay our bills. We made the decision to move to the DFW area, when I got denied, to live with my mother to be able to live on one income and cut down on the stress until I finish school. I strongly believe everything happens for a reason. Our situation has improved so much since our move, and my husband starts his new job tomorrow making more income than his last, and I actually like TWU's nursing program better than UT's. Two weeks ago I also got a call from UTHSC nursing admissions saying that " I know you got a denial letter, but...I have great news! You are at the top of a waiting list now for the Fall start and it is a very good possibility that you could still get in!". I explained to her that we had moved and I was no longer interested but it goes to show, never give up hope because even if you do not get in, the people who do get accepted might end up going somewhere else, not finishing there pre-reqs, not passing the background check, ...etc. Just don't get discouraged and stay positive! You can find a silver-lining in almost any situation if you just stay positive and keep moving forward.:)
Wow, good job to you for motivation! You're so strong! Good luck on your TEAS!!!
Awesome! I love TWU! It's such a gorgeous campus. Where do they do most of the clinicals? Does it vary? Congratulations on all your hard work! ... Everything happens for a reason... :) Although its difficult to see at times! I heard Patho is pretty challenging. I'm currently taking stats right now, 3 week course, it's pretty tough because we fly thru the material. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else! I'm just glad I didn't try to take it online. Whew!
They use all the major hospitals in the DFW metroplex. Baylor Dallas/Plano, Presby Dallas/Plano, Parkland, UT South Western, Medical Center Plano...etc etc. In the information session they said that they are constantly fighting for spots for their students because it's so competitive now with all the other nursing programs, so it's always changing.
I take the TEAS tomorrow morning at 9am!! :heartbeat I'm anxious, nervous, and excited at the same time!! I'm ready to get this over with it'll be a huge weight off my shoulders, and I just hope i'm prepared to make at least an 80! Not sure what to expect, but I have a study guide I've been using for the past couple weeks I bought from Barnes & Noble. Also, depending on my score I will decide whether or not I will take the HESI as well and apply to UTHSC Houston. Does anyone know if I'll get my scores on Saturday? Or if they won't be available until Monday since I'm taking my exam on a Thursday?? Thanks and good luck to everyone.
I am sitting next to my friend Lanie...she has a question for y'all!
Hey girls. I am trying to apply for the Spring semester along with all the other hopefuls. However, I just decided that nursing is the path I wanted to take. Unfortunately I have a C in A&P 2 and a few other C's on my record. Does this totally disqualify me? I have an A in Stat and A&P 1 and a a fairly decent GPA. I take the TEAS next week. Any advice? Thanks, I should register for this site. - Lanie
If you don't mind, what's your GPA? Other people above have said a 3.5 is considered competitive. I have a total of 3 C's. I will be retaking two of them, which will leave me with only one C, 2 B's i think, and the rest are A's. Right now my GPA is a 3.57. I still have Stats and Art to take as well as those two retakes. I'm hoping to have a 3.7 by the time I apply. (Applying Fall 2013)

Yeah, I have learned to look at it that way too. I really think TWU is great too and that it is actually a better fit for me. They only offer the BSN in Dallas, it is close to the medical center but easy to get to and the building is a 7 story building that is only one year old and really nice! I took a tour last week and really love it. It's on Parkland Hospital's property so they do a lot of clinicals at Parkland but the admissions coordinator said they really work with you on your clinicals to put you somewhere convienient to where you live, around DFW area.
Good luck with Stat. I took it online and would definitely not recommend doing that to anyone but I'm so glad it's over with!
