Is anyone out there applying to TWU for the Fall of 2010? I got this idea from a previous thread and thought I should get one started for this semester, so that we can help each other and communicate with each other?
I have taken the Hesi-A2 and got a 74.8 on it so they didn't even look at my application. I live on campus so any help or information I can give just let me know. I'm excited and feel good about this deadline.
Good luck and I look forward to meeting you!
THX SO MUCH JAZMIN!!!! I really appreciate the info! I am skeptical of taking either patho or pharm in the summer, but everyone who is in school now keeps saying "I should have taken those classes in the summer!!" I think I will. You did answer my questions. I'm sure I will have more, and when I do, I will definitely post them. OHHH, come to think of it, I do have more questions!! :)
How/what are assessment lectures and concepts lab like?
You also said they put you into groups. Are these groups selected for you, or can you decide who you want/don't want in your group?
And, you also said that you didn't have the option to select your class days/times right? I'm guessing they already have the times selected and we would just pick up our schedule...is that correct??
What type/brand of stethoscope did you purchase and from where? I have been pricing them, but want to wait until I go to the advisement meeting we have in a few weeks.
Also, are we allowed to wear clogs?? I went to look at the ones they sell at Dillards. I have heard soo many great reviews about them and now I'm anxious to purchase me a pair!!
Thanks, Jazmin! That's a lot of great info!I am definitely planning to take patho in the summer if I can.
I have a silly question...do you wear scrubs to regular classes or just to clinicals? Someone asked me that the other day, and I had never thought about it...
Lol. I actually wondered about this myself before I started. Scrubs are only worn for lab and clinical. So 2 sets would suffice. For lecture it's just street clothes. Everyone is pretty casual...not too many people have time to worry about looking cute. I would say though that the uniforms they sell during advisement kinda suck, the fit is just weird, at least in my opinion. We had a chance to try them on but i had to wait in line forever to do so...hopefully they will have a better system goin for your advisement day. I bought them that day bc i figured it would be easier that way and i also thought they had to be that exact color/style, but then I quickly realized its not really a big deal as long as its the same color it doesnt have to be the same exact shade...if that makes any sense. Anyway, I ended up buying a different brand of scrubs. If you decide not to buy the scrubs thru career uniforms that day just make sure you buy patches...that was the one good thing about buying them on advisement...when we got our uniforms, they already had the patches sown on them. I ended up taking them off and putting them on my new scrubs.
Hello everyone! I am also a J1 at TWU finishing up the semester with Jazmin! Hey Jazmin I can't put a face to your name right now lol but I know if I saw u I would know u! Anyways I was just bored and I know before we started I had so many questions just like all of you! So I am also here and open to questions! TWU is a great school ! Anyways hope to see all of you next semester! Best of wishes to all!
Hey guys, I didn't even know there was new posts, I'm not getting notifications to my e-mail anymore Idk why!
Anyway, I got my immunizations done!! I've had MMR and Hep B, I got my shot records from my middle school (lol)... And then last week I got the Tdap, TB Skin test, and a Varicella titer. I had to wait for the titer results but they came in Monday and it was positive thank God! So I just need to go pick up to lab report and fax everything. I'm prayyying that TWU will accept the school record for my MMR and Hep B because I do not want to have to get those over again! Or titers.
Sorry I can't help anyone having problems with getting it all done... I got the stuff I needed done at my doctor's office and my insurance covered everything except for little copays for the visits... I have United Healthcare. I know not all insurance programs cover all that, especially the titers. The Varicella one is not too bad but if you need a titer for MMR, it's three separate titers for each one so it's a lot.
Anxious for the advisement session!!
So it's recommended to just buy the patches and then buy our own scrubs?? I don't want to be stuck with ill-fitting scrubs. I'm really small and I hate when stuff doesn't fit me right! lol
Have any of the current students had a problem with the white scrub tops? Like do they need to be replaced often, being white and all?
I have a friend that just graduated from TWU a year or two ago, and he told me not to buy anything at the advisement session. He said get maroon scrubs from WalMart. He said he never used a penlight, and I forgot what he said about the stethoscopes... Anywho, I was looking on Amazon and saw they have a penlight set for less than $11, and they're colored! I'll probably go ahead and buy those.
I finally got my shots!! I got hep-b and DtaP at the county health department. I went to a county hospital clinic, but they told me it would be cheaper to drive about 100yards down the road to the health dept. I had no wait at all. It cost me $5! I'm going to make an appt next week for the TB test.
Jazmin and Alyssa, do y'all know if we can turn in a letter saying we had chicken pox instead of getting a titer or shots for varicella? The form they sent us says nothing about it, but the TWU Health Services page says a letter is okay.
I saw on TWU's website that they are no longer using the HESI A2. I wonder why... I think all nursing schools should get together and pick one...but oh well, I already got in...
Also, for us Houston folk... I started looking at the classes for summer and fall. For Dallas, clinical times are listed, but not for Houston. They have lecture and lab times though. Patho for the summer is Thursday afternoon/evenings...pending no changes and no added classes. Also, there are 75 seats in the class, according to webadvisor.
Hi, I'm also finishing my J1 semester now too. And I want to say I disagree with your friend. There are some things that you need to buy here and cannot buy other places, but they will tell you about that at your advisement session. There are some things they have that are optional, but I would strongly recommend them. I believe we will be here during that session so you can ask a current student. They will be selling some stuff like shirts and sweatshirts and for that kind of stuff ONLY accept cash or checks, but for the equipment and scrubs and other stuff you can use a credit or debit card as well.
If ya'll have any questions feel free to ask me as well!!!
Good luck to everyone!!

I started looking at the classes yesterday as well. I noticed that they aren't offering pharmacology in the summer...well, at least not right now. I wonder if they are going to add additional Patho classes? I kind of like the idea of going once a week for now.

So are you going to get the rest of your Hep b series from them? Where exactly is this place? Do you have an address?

Well I'm not sure what you mean by your first question... if you're asking if the classes are hard or easy, well I think the material itself is not very difficult, but it's more like a matter of it being SO much, in such LITTLE time from 4 different classes.
I have to say that when I would hear people talk about how hard nursing school is, I would think "It can't be THAT hard!" Well, it is pretty tough because it's like a whole new lifestyle that I had to get accustomed to. That being said, I would say that Yes, I do like nursing school so far. It's like with every little obstacle you overcome along the way...every test, every clinical...you get more and more encouraged to keep going.
This semester this is what my schedule is like:
Monday: Concepts 9-11:50 then Assessment lecture 2-4:20
Tuesday: Pharm 4-7:50
Wed: in the beginning of the semester, we had concepts lab from 8-4 or somethin like that can't really remember now, so don't quote me on that...then we started clinicals in like late feb/early march... so that was 6:45-2:00 (this will vary for everyone b/c it depends on what clinical group you get put in)
Thursday: Patho: 5-8:50
Friday: Assessment Lab 9-1:30 (this will also vary depending on your clinical group. You have assessment and concepts lab w/ your clinical group of 10 people)
Keep in mind that your concepts and assessment lab days will vary depending on your clinical assignment. Also, there's no guarantee that the same schedule will be in place next semester.
At TWU, you take the same classes all semester long.
All of the J1s are in the same class for lecture at the same day and time, we did not have any options of selecting our class days/times.
I would say that if you have an opportunity to take patho or pharm over the summer, DO IT! I wish I would have had that opportunity cause it would have made things easier for me since I work, it is a little overwhelming dealing with such a heavy course load. Anyway, i hope i answered your questions, let me know if i missed anything.
