TWU Fall 2010

Published

Is anyone out there applying to TWU for the Fall of 2010? I got this idea from a previous thread and thought I should get one started for this semester, so that we can help each other and communicate with each other?

I have taken the Hesi-A2 and got a 74.8 on it so they didn't even look at my application. I live on campus so any help or information I can give just let me know. I'm excited and feel good about this deadline.

Good luck and I look forward to meeting you!

Hi All!!! Can't wait to meet yall at the advisement session!

I had the titer done since I already had chicken pox when I was little. But I remember my son getting the shot and he didn't cry much so I don't think that one hurts. BTW, thanks for the info TXcatcher!

I hope they go over expenses with us at the advisement session.

If I don't get awarded more financial aid soon (all I got was a $2000 transfer scholarship so far) I'm going to have to get a student loan to cover it and I don't want to wait until the last minute so I want to know how much I would be needing to ask for.

Natnat, but waiting until the last minute makes it more exciting! ;)

I'm a bit jealous that you at least know you'll have some tuition covered. I wonder when we'll learn about the STARS scholarships...aside from the big ol' "DENIED" on one of them. I'm pretty sure I'll have to cover everything with loans. I can't wait to have a nursing GPA so I can apply for more scholarships next time. I never know what to do when scholarships require certain GPAs. I have lots of GPAs...some of them aren't very good because college the first time around was more about having a social life.

Hello Fellow TWU Nursing Students,

I've gotten accepted to TWU Houston Fall 2010.

I've been glancing over some of the posts and I'd like to address a few

1) As far as financial aid goes, don't stress. Trust me, I came to TWU not knowing how the hell I was going to pay for it. I was STRESSED. :uhoh3: But luckily, my scholarships and loans kicked in later than I anticipated. I am still waiting on my TEXAS grant that I usually receive, but that's because TWU is kind of slow on this.

2) As far as immunizations go, I just got my varicella titer through my doc and TB test at TWU. Also, I could NOT find my shot records, and the ones I did have were cut off! So I called that number on the immunization sheet and they said High School Transcripts are fine. Thank God!

3) I calculated how much tuition and fees would be(with $10 increase in each credit hour= $168) and I came down to this total: $2910. What's missing is other school fees and books(which vary a lot)

N3005: $950

N3614: $750

N 3813: $522

Bio 4344: $688

4)I also emailed the the TNSA people whether it was really necessary to purchase scrubs through them

This was his response

Thanks for your email. We have negotiated a low price for scrubs due to our large order. It's really hard to beat the prices. Plus, we have all the TWU identifiers sewn on for you. If you do use scrubs from another store, they must match the maroon color of TWU's uniform. You can be denied access to clinicals if you are not wearing the proper uniform. You will also need to order the TWU logo patches and attach them yourself.

The uniform also includes a white lab coat with TWU patches sewn on.

If you have any further questions, let me know.

Cheers,

I purchased tops on sale by Dickies when I used to work at a chiro office and got them on sale for $7 in Irving. I don't think sowing should be all that difficult.LOL.After all, he is trying to make business. Personally, I am very picky about scrub tops and bottoms. Some just don't fit your body shape very well. Like some have too high of a waist, some are to rough, and etc.

Hope this helps and congrats to all!

Oh yeah, the total is INCLUDING the course fee!

Geez, that drug test sure doesn't give you much time! Apparently I got the email last night around 9:30, and I have to get the test done today? Are they kidding? So much for checking into immunizations today...

I am going to complain to TWU about that. I think that process needs to be simplified. Because I signed up for the drug test, and since I am going to Houston, they wanted me to take it in Houston the next day(Wednesday April 14) after I signed up. I panicked since it said you should only change it for an emergency.

But I called SurScan and a nice lady  arranged for me to get it done at the SurScan office. So she just said to go either Saturday or Monday.

Yeah, I'm not sure if it's TWU or Surscan that decides you only have about 24 hours notice!! I don't check my e-mail a million times a day anymore (I used to before we got the acceptance emails haha but not so much anymore) so I barely saw my e-mail before I needed to go! Thankfully I'm in Houston and one of the centers was actually really close to me... The Surscan people were all really nice, though. Usually they're cold and unfriendly like when you get drug tests for jobs but the guy who took the stuff from me was real friendly all asking me what it was for and what kind of nursing I wanted to go into later and everything... Maybe he was just trying to flirt but whatever, at least they were nice.

THANK YOU!!

I'm a slob at sewing but I'm sure I could get my sister or my aunt to do it for me. I totally agree about the being picky about the scrubs. I can't stand when it's a cheap, rough material or if it doesn't fit right.

So our actual tuition should not be too much? That's good. I know the books will be a lot :( Does anyone know where we can get our books? The Majors here in Houston closed didn't it? So will we have to order our books online or something?

Also, to TX Catcher (I think it was you) or whoever said something about the STARS scholarships, I'm so with you!! The scholarship that I did get (Transfer Scholarship) was from STARS it says Accepted, and there's one that says Denied but the rest say something else I forgot what it is but basically they haven't picked people yet. I know it's only the end of April but for me everything seems so close even though we still have a few months!! LOL

I'm hoping I get awarded some more, or that financial aid helps a lot because I didn't apply for any extra scholarships. I only applied for financial aid and the STARS scholarships that I qualified for. So if I don't get enough from those I'll have to get a student loan.

I am hoping we can buy the books through Amazon.com. I am addicted to Amazon, and I get free 2-day shipping.

I do have a question for the J1s... Do we have access to any type of rec center? My sister works for UTHSC and says they have a great rec center. And if no rec center, is there a locker room of any sort with showers?

Well, looks like I'll probably be sewing patches too. I'm barely 5'0 and am very picky about pants, especially scrubs. Pants are always too long for me. I got a feeling that those scrubs are going to be either too big or uncomfortable. Either way, I'll try them on that day.

As far as the scholarships, its nerve wrecking to wait and see if I'm getting any money. They're having us wait what seems like an eternity. I'm sure it will all work out for all of us.

Oh, I just had the best massage ever at Massage Envy. I highly recommend everyone to get one. You will feel so good! I didn't even know my muscles were so tight until today. Between a stressful job at good ol' Walgreens pharmacy and getting everything together for school, I guess it has really taken a toll on me. Its all good, I fell GREAT now! ^_^
