  1. Well if i recall correctly we were required to have the titer done and we actually had to submit a copy of our lab results along w the twu immunization form...correct me if im wrong Alyssa...oh and btw alyssa...when i first signed up for this site I didn't think i'd be using it much so i always use my middle name for stuff like this...hence the "jazmin" my name is actually yesenia or jesi lol...im used to people calling me by so many different names. But yeah, I cant really say that i can put a face with your name either...the only people whose names i can say i actually know are those in my clinical group
  2. Thank you. The reason I wanted to know this is because I am a nursing student and I am doing a presentation on the ANA and I was having a hard time finding out what the dues are...the website just said they vary by state and district and I really wanted to provide more info than that. I eventually called ANA and they informed me that TNA would have that info so I went to their site and was able to find the dues. Thanks again!
  3. Lol. I actually wondered about this myself before I started. Scrubs are only worn for lab and clinical. So 2 sets would suffice. For lecture it's just street clothes. Everyone is pretty casual...not too many people have time to worry about looking cute. I would say though that the uniforms they sell during advisement kinda suck, the fit is just weird, at least in my opinion. We had a chance to try them on but i had to wait in line forever to do so...hopefully they will have a better system goin for your advisement day. I bought them that day bc i figured it would be easier that way and i also thought they had to be that exact color/style, but then I quickly realized its not really a big deal as long as its the same color it doesnt have to be the same exact shade...if that makes any sense. Anyway, I ended up buying a different brand of scrubs. If you decide not to buy the scrubs thru career uniforms that day just make sure you buy patches...that was the one good thing about buying them on advisement...when we got our uniforms, they already had the patches sown on them. I ended up taking them off and putting them on my new scrubs.
  4. Well I'm not sure what you mean by your first question... if you're asking if the classes are hard or easy, well I think the material itself is not very difficult, but it's more like a matter of it being SO much, in such LITTLE time from 4 different classes. I have to say that when I would hear people talk about how hard nursing school is, I would think "It can't be THAT hard!" Well, it is pretty tough because it's like a whole new lifestyle that I had to get accustomed to. That being said, I would say that Yes, I do like nursing school so far. It's like with every little obstacle you overcome along the way...every test, every clinical...you get more and more encouraged to keep going. This semester this is what my schedule is like: Monday: Concepts 9-11:50 then Assessment lecture 2-4:20 Tuesday: Pharm 4-7:50 Wed: in the beginning of the semester, we had concepts lab from 8-4 or somethin like that can't really remember now, so don't quote me on that...then we started clinicals in like late feb/early march... so that was 6:45-2:00 (this will vary for everyone b/c it depends on what clinical group you get put in) Thursday: Patho: 5-8:50 Friday: Assessment Lab 9-1:30 (this will also vary depending on your clinical group. You have assessment and concepts lab w/ your clinical group of 10 people) Keep in mind that your concepts and assessment lab days will vary depending on your clinical assignment. Also, there's no guarantee that the same schedule will be in place next semester. At TWU, you take the same classes all semester long. All of the J1s are in the same class for lecture at the same day and time, we did not have any options of selecting our class days/times. I would say that if you have an opportunity to take patho or pharm over the summer, DO IT! I wish I would have had that opportunity cause it would have made things easier for me since I work, it is a little overwhelming dealing with such a heavy course load. Anyway, i hope i answered your questions, let me know if i missed anything.
  5. Hi, I am currently a J1 student at TWU Houston. I would be glad to answer any questions you guys may have...I'll try my best anyway. The semester is coming to end, so things are pretty hectic and I'm super busy most of the time, but I'll try to come on here every once in a while to check on this forum.:)
  6. Can anyone PLEASE tell me how much it the dues are to become a member of the ANA if one resides in Texas? Thanks a bunch!
  7. So we get to choose the day? Do you know what times?
  8. Thanks for clearing that up.
  9. Can anyone tell me if we will or will NOT be having our lab assessment class on Friday the 22? I'm still not very clear on that. I heard some people say yes other say no. Thanks!
  10. Hey guys, Have any of you looked at previous posts for TWU? I was looking throught the TWU Houston Fall 2009 Forum and there is a LOT of useful info. Heres a link to where I feel it starts getting good. :) https://allnurses.com/tx-nursing-programs/twu-houston-fall-381654-page47.html
  11. I just called and spoke to someone. She said we are required to attend both orientations. I guess since one is for the CON and the other is for TWU.
  12. that's a huge relief! when i called last week, they just told me to wait for my info packet to get details. i was just looking at my shot record and i did get the series of 3 hep b shots back in 2001-2002. hopefully this is all i need because you're right, the whole process is turning out to be really expensive. i was previously a student at north harris college and they are offering the hep b for $35 which is a good deal compared to prices i've seen for it at walgreens or doctor's offices. i'm not sure if you have to be a student there though. it's probably a good idea to call and make sure about the locations/dates/times etc. fall hepatitis b immunization center at lsc-kingwood [color=#b30838]immunizations will be available: monday, november 16 from 3-5 p.m. in hsb 108 monday, december 7 from 3-5 p.m. in hsb 108 http://lonestar.edu/hepatitis-b.htm http://lonestar.edu/nursing-dept-kingwood.htm
  13. I called the Houston center just now and the person I spoke to asked me for my name and told me that my packet was sent out on the 10th, so I should give it one more day. About the Hep B I need to dig up my shot records. I was born in 87 so hopefully I've had it already like you,Ali. Does anyone know if we have to have the series completed by Dec 11th?
  14. Thanks, Uponastar! So we will have to have all this done by Dec 11th? That's so soon. Do you already have all of your immunizations in order?I'm a little worried about the Hep B because from what I've been reading, it takes a total of six months to have all 3 that we need. Would you happen to know more about this? Thanks again.
  15. Man, I really hope so cause I'm paranoid about not getting everything done on time! It's always reassuring to not be alone on the boat, but if it takes too much longer, I'm gonna have to give em a call.
