TWU Applicants Spring 2011

Published

Hello Everyone,

Well I am currently looking to apply to TWU for Spring 2011. I thought it would be nice to start a thread because I am sure we will all need a good support system. The whole application process is so STRESSFUL!

Lets Get It Started!!!

Thanks for the info. :)

Are you going to Houston or Dallas?

Megmh291,

I was accepted to both but I picked Dallas bc thats where I'm from :)

Congratulations to everyone who is accepted. As for those still waiting, and to the rest as well, is there anyone considering carpooling from the South Houston, Clear Lake area to the Houston campus??

Is anyone on here FROM these areas?

Ok. I was beginning to worry, b/c everyone was talking about a packet....and orientation. I rvd mine today, too. YAAAY!! :yeah:

Now, I'm sitting here with UTMB and TWU staring at me. What do you think?

TWU!

Great/helpful staff, terrific environment, largest med center in the world.

Thanks RyanT! THose are some of my thoughts, too.

Is anyone else concerned about the cost aspect of attending TWU?? What are some of you doing to deal with that? Thanks

gloworm26,

I never even thought about cost. How much is the estimated cost for the TWU BSN program??

The average cost as I know it is more than 8700/year and on 12/10, less than a month away, we have to have 100-150 for uniforms and 150 for nsna. !! and we are buying our books then! I'm a lil stressed...I don't have that kind of money.

Hey guys! I have been posting on the Houston thread..thought I'd get in on the action here!

Before you stress... It is my understanding from reading posts on other twu threads that it is NOT mandatory to buy all the stuff on dec. 10th, but you have the option. (I think it's more of a fundraiser for TNSA)

I'm not sure if it's required to join tnsa, call and ask. (maybe you can join at a later date?)

The cpr class is required of course, I don't think it's any cheaper elsewhere. Idk? I'm pretty sure you need it before enrolling in courses.

We don't have to buy uniforms and supplies through the school...we won't need all that until we start clinicals anyway! So I'm going to find out what I need on the 10th, and then find the cheapest price and buy online. And I'm sure you can buy your books where ever you want too (bookstore, find them used, online, from previous students selling books) whatever is cheapest as long as it's the correct book! (IF ANY CURRENT STUDENTS WOULD LIKE TO TELL US IF ANY BOOKS ARE UNNECESSARY THAT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED IN THE FUTURE :))

A good idea would be to ask your family/friends for some of your supplies as holiday gifts!! Or just plain cash/gift cards would be grrrrreat!

I dunno about tuition total...that seems steep, unless that includes books ...but I'd like to know as well!

IF ANYONE HAS A CLUE ABOUT THIS STUFF, OR WANTS TO CORRECT ME FEEL FREE! :)

I hate to read that you're getting stressed!! Would it help that I sing the Glow worm song in my head when I see your posts? Sorry if you hate it or something haha...here are some lyrics for you :)

"Shine little glow-worm, glimmer, glimmer

Hey, there don't get dimmer, dimmer"

ok, here are some answers to all of the financial questions...sorry it is so long.

  • my first semester bill was $3238. this price was for all of the j1 classes except patho. patho should run you another $800-$1000 or so. i can't find the exact amount on my statement for patho because i was also enrolled in another class at the time.
  • during advisement...there will be a ton of options for you to buy different things. since you are the spring class, you do not have a lot of time to get things together like we did in the fall so...buy what you can afford.
  • for some people, buying the scrubs during advisement was alot easier because they could try on a sample pair during advisement and the patches were already sewn on for them once they were ordered.
  • as for books, there are about 90 j1 students and they are bound to want to sell their books. however, there are some books that most will not sell because they are vital learning tools. i will be selling most of my books and will be happy to sell them at a reasonable price :)
  • tnsa is an organization that i am proud that i joined. i am actually running for office in the organization and hope all of you will join. at first, i thought it might not be worth my time, so i didn't sign up at advisement. after researching the organization...i paid my $100 and i have no regrets. throughout your student career you will be building a portfolio and tnsa is a great way to open some doors for you in the future. we have some great ideas for you guys in your first semester! if you have any questions, we will be at advisement to answer them.
  • there is no bookstore at the houston campus so most of us buy our books online, from other students, or at the matthew's bookstore located on the uthsc-h campus. the cheapest route is through another student...if you still can't find a book, amazon is perfect. they have free 2 day shipping if you enroll in their college student program. it is totally free...all they need is your twu email address to verify that you are actaully a student.
  • most importantly!!!!! on the home page of the twu website there is a link on the right hand side for scholarships!!!! if you do not apply to these scholarship, then you are giving all the free money away to someone else. there are some specifically for incomming students. apply now!!! even if you don't think you will get it...apply!

i had all of the same fears you guys are experiencing now, but with a little research you will find that it is possible to pay for nursing school. i had no money for tuition when i started but in the end my entire tuition was paid without me having to come out of my pocket :D.

if you have any more questions just ask..preferrably before finals :uhoh3: because i won't be on here as much.
