TWU Applicants Spring 2011

Published

Hello Everyone,

Well I am currently looking to apply to TWU for Spring 2011. I thought it would be nice to start a thread because I am sure we will all need a good support system. The whole application process is so STRESSFUL!

Thanks missmoe for the advice! My friends can wait, but I think I'll spend the winter break spending so much time with my daughter she'll be sick of me! Haha.

Could you clarify when you said classes are predetermined? I know there's an expectation of the order of classes you take as a J1, J2, etc... but does that mean they assign which days you'll have clinical hours too?

Sooo...to answer a few questions. Remember that I attend the Houston campus and things might be run differently in Dallas

  • You will go online and register for Patho, Clinical Competencies, Pharmocology, and Assessment. It does not matter which Pharm or Clinical Competencies instructor that you register for...they all meet in the same room, at the same time, and do the EXACT same things. They just split the class up for registration purposes ONLY.
  • On Orientation Day (NOT ADVISEMENT DAY) you will be given your Clinical Competencies (Lab/Clinical)assignments. This will tell you who your clinical instructor is, the hospital you will be working at, and the time and date. You will have the same clinical schedule as roughly 9 other people. These will also be the same people you will have Assessment (Lab) with. Assessment lab information (time & date) will also be given at Orientation.

Sooo...you will take Patho with everyone else that still needs to take it. Clinical Competencies (Lecture), Assessment (Lecture), and Pharm (Lecture) will also be with everyone else at the same time and day. The only difference in schedules you will have from other people will be your Assessment (Lab), and Clinical Competencies (Lab/Clinical).

:D

Hi,

I have tons of questions. I'm Sorry...

  1. I was looking all over the website and wonder when is the graduation date for you? So if I am starting this January 2011, am I graduating January 2012 or December 2012?
  2. I also wanted to know how would we be able to take Patho and Pharm in advance?
  3. If I have summers off, would I be able to take one or two courses in the summer to lighten my load in the Fall?
  4. I have a Bachelors degree already and saw that they had two different course paths...would my degree change my class scheule?

Sorry for all the odd questions...i'm trying to take your advice but I'm very nervous and excited at the same time!!

The program is 4 semester (excluding summer), so if you get accepted to Spring 2011, then you will graduate Fall 2012 in December.

Since you are getting accepted in the Spring, you don't have the summer to take Patho like my class did. Therefore, if you haven't already taken Patho or are currently enrolled in it...you might be out of luck. If you find a Winter (December Mini-Term) Patho course...MAKE SURE THE CREDIT HOURS WILL TRANSFER BEFORE YOU TAKE IT. PATHO IS A MAJOR FUNDAMENTAL COURSE AND THE COLLEGE OF NURSING MIGHT NOT ACCEPT EVERY PATHO CLASS TAKEN AT OTHER SCHOOLS. I put that in caps on purpose!!!

Not all courses are offered in the summer. They usually offer a course in the summer if there are enough people that need to retake it for some reason. Alot of the classes are corequisites and must be taken WITH all your other classes for that semester. Nursing classes are structured a little differently than the prereqs. Since this is a 4 semester program...it is already jam packed with "fun adventures" and there will be little time or brain juice to take a summer class.

The difference in the two traditional degree paths have to do with the prerequisites...all that core complete nonsense you had to deal with during applications. For those that don't have a degree and were not core complete at another college will have to take Women's Studies before graduation (as a requirement to get the TWomen'sU degree). Degree and Non-Degree students in the Traditional Program have the same schedule set-up.

Hope this helps :D

Thank you so much for your help missmoe!

Thank you!!! I'm so glad you are

On here to help us!

I have a question...how many people are actually picked for the Houston campus? I know that thousands apply, but I'm curious how many people they actually chose.

Wow, the admin for this site slapped the proverbial wrist very quickly! I'm hoping for their sake they have some kind of filter that searches for words like "facebook" etc. to enforce their rules. It would suck to have to troll and read different threads just to enforce rules.

Anyway, congrats everybody. I definitely agree with the person who said we should exchange numbers etc. We are really going to need to apply teamwork from what I hear. I see an increase in happy hour attendance in the future! lol

@missmoe Thanks for all of your help. It is truly invaluable... easing anxiety and the racing mind!

Does anyone know how the first semester schedule will look like? Like how many hours a day, not including studying of course. And what is the deal with the uniforms in the student handbook. It says a maroon skirt, white blouse and all sorts of other stuff.

All of those questions will be answered on Advisement Day. You will be getting something in the mail regarding when that day will be.

I got my acceptance letter yesterday :) i am so relieved! i applied to both campuses and I am going to pick Dallas center!
