TWU Applicants Spring 2011

Published

Hello Everyone,

Well I am currently looking to apply to TWU for Spring 2011. I thought it would be nice to start a thread because I am sure we will all need a good support system. The whole application process is so STRESSFUL!

Lets Get It Started!!!

Does TWU do interviews? Or is it based solely on your grades and TEAS score?

There are no interviews at TWU.

i completed the teas v and submitted my application for the weekend program. i have searched, but i have not been able to find information that details the ranking and selection process. in the past, has twu made such details public? i know they consider your gpa and test scores. does anyone know how much weight is give to each evaluated category? does twu consider areas other than gpa and test scores?

twu has minimum gpas and test scores...as far as what they are accepting for the semester that you are applying it all depends on others that apply. the minimum gpa is a 3.25 but during the spring the lowest gpa of those that are accepted might be a 3.7

i am not sure if they look at extracurricular activities when selecting applicants. the university might be able to answer that question for you. as for me, i had no extra activities and no prior medical experience but i did have high test scores...go figure!:D

Admission criteria:

http://www.twu.edu/nursing/faq.asp

"What is the lowest GPA needed to be admitted to the nursing program?

A GPA of 3.0 on the required prerequisite courses is necessary to be eligible to be considered for admission to the nursing program. The elective is not included in the calculation of the GPA. Admission to the nursing program is competitive and the cutoff GPA varies each semester based on the applicant pool.

Is the GPA the only requirement for admission to upper division nursing?

No, admission to upper division nursing courses is based on consideration of multiple criteria. These criteria include the following: GPA for prerequisite coursework; admission assesssment test scores; grades received on first attempt for Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Microbiology, and Statistics. Consideration will be given to students who have completed 32 or more semester credit hours of the required non-nursing lower division courses at TWU."

Admission is based on grades and test scores. Extra-curricular activities, volunteering, work history, letters of recommendation, etc. are not looked at - it's all grades and test scores.

Hi, I am new to allnurses.com :) I applied to TWU - both Houston and Dallas, UTA, and UT Tyler. Is TWU Houston campus easier to get into than Dallas campus? Also, I only have 3.5 science and 3.71 prereq. I know people who didn't get accepted in Fall with higher gpa than mine, but do you guys think that Spring would be less competitive? Do you think I should retake some of the science classes just in case? (so that I can apply next Fall?) I just think my gpa is so low :( Thanks! Does anybody mind sharing their gpa?

Great idea applying to both TWU campuses...starting Fall 2011 they will only let you apply to one campus at a time.

BTW...you have a great gpa. Take into consideration that TWU looks at the first grades you made in the sciences and stats along with your gpa. Unless you totally bombed one of those courses and can replace it with an A, I wouldn't worry about it.

I just completed my application... Yikes! lol

I can't believe we need to wait until November to find out if we get accepted!

Good luck everyone!!!!!!!!!!!

I keep checking my TWU email already. lol I think I'm too anxious...

scores for my TEAS were not that great. Better then the 64% yes.

I am waiting in suspense with the rest of you, but I was wondering what you guys think about what is considered a "good" score for the TEAS V. I know you have to have atleast 64% (& I did surpass that) but am still slightly worried about my score :uhoh3:

Hey everyone and missmoe27, thank you for your advice.

Does anybody know if TWU sends you a confirmation letter/e-mail when they receive everything (application, TEAS scores, transcript)? Because I received confirmation e-mail from UTA after I applied (that way I know that I didn't miss anything during my application process). I am so worried about whether my application and TEAS scores has been received or not.

I am also applying to Midwestern State Univ. Is anybody applying to MSU? I don't really understand the process. I tried to apply through online- it took me to [NursingCAS] - is this correct? Am I supposed to apply through this website? Because it is asking me $45. I don't know, maybe I should call MSU. But if there's anyone applying to MSU, please let me know if I'm doing this right.

I am worried about my TEAS score. It was not good :( Which ones do TWU look at the most? Do you know? Because I know that UT Tyler looks at Math and Reading.

Thanks guys- so many questions! I know... I'm so nervous already.

It's September 2! Today is the first day of the rest of our lives lol! They are starting to look over applications now. I'm sooooo nervous.

This thread has been pretty quiet compared to the ones for previous semesters. How is everyone doing? Feeling good? How did the TEAS go?

When you apply to the college of nursing, you get an immediate email that confirms your application was submitted. You don't get anything to confirm receipt of your test scores though. I was worried too, so I called a few weeks ago to double check. I'm not sure about transcripts since I've only been to TWU, but I believe you can check that in your Pioneer Portal somewhere...?

I know, I wish I knew too! I've been reading these boards the last few semesters, and based on what's been posted it seems about 84-87(depending on gpa and grades too) seemed to be the cutoff when they used the HESI. But since this is the first semester they've used the TEAS, and with the TEAS V being a newer (and from what I hear, harder!) version than the TEAS 3/4, I just can't seem to find anything to compare it with to estimate what is going to be considered competitive. Guess we just have to be the guinea pigs for this one, lol!
