Trump’s assault on Postal Service and voting is a plot against American democracy | Editorial

Quote

On Thursday morning, after months of attacks on the United States Postal Service and vote-by-mail, President Donald Trump admitted that the two efforts are connected as a part of one voter disenfranchisement effort. In a Fox Business Network interview, Trump said that the sticking point for him in the negotiations over a new coronavirus economic relief package is Post Office funding: “If we don’t make a deal, that means they don’t get the money. That means they can’t have universal mail-in voting. They just can’t have it.”

Again more racism against minorities. You insinuate that they are at a lower level than others as you lump them together with the “indigent” and “undocumented” or do you mean illegal? Trump is a capitalist and a great example of the American dream regardless of what you say. He is he most Pro-American president since Reagan and really the only thing protecting this country from people to trying to turn this place into Venezuela. The poorest of Americans are still in the top 1% of people worldwide and to claim that populations are marginalized in America is not only false it’s outright offensive.

That's not even good spin. The faux outrage is a nice touch though.

What are you talking about? Where was I when Bush was attacking Iraq and while Obama was praising the life of a terrorist? Are you talking about Bin Laden? Obama had him disposed of. Please review the history of the tax codes starting with Eisenhower when the top tax rate was 70%. The Democrats at the time of the But it wasn’t Reagan who first proposed bringing the top rate down: This is a quote from Politico in an article proposing that the ilk of AOC should not propose to soak the rich. "It was Democrats in Congress who killed the 70 percent tax bracket. Their reasons for doing so hold important lessons for Ocasio-Cortez, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), and any other progressive who wants to use the tax code to roll back income inequality and make the rich pay their fair share." So during the 80's the Democrats lowered the top rate to 50%.

Wealthy people have NEVER paid less for the privilege of living in a country that helped them along in becoming billionaires. The people in the lower tax brackets pay a much larger portion of their income in taxes than the people in the 37% bracket. Do the math; if the guy in the 37% tax bracket made 16 billion dollars as a hedge fund manager, he can claim most of his/her income as capital gains and pay nothing on billions of dollars. Now you can be sure that the little guy in the 22% bracket is paying 22% since he has no capital gains to hide behind. Amazon paid no taxes in 2018 and 2019.. On paper Jeff Besoz only made about $81,000 because everything else is in Amazon stock. Just because I believe Trump is the Anti-christ doesn't mean that I am aligned with AOC, but I do think Elizabeth Warren would made a great head of the treasury department - just didn't want her for president. Most Democrats are middle-of-the road people trapped in the same party as some yahoos but our yahoos aren't people out advocating more guns and less testing, we are messier and have to spend more time herding cats. But we're not stupid or mean and we are going to get Caligula out of office.

I’m not talking about Osama Bin Ladin. Do a little research on what 20th century terrorist bombed children and engaged in a practice known as “necklacing”. A despicable man that Obama celebrated when he died. As for the history of tax code just because it was done a certain way in the past doesn’t make it just. Slavery is also a historical institution so should that exist today as well? Well it actually does and thanks to Obama the slave trade has exploded in places like Libya but Trump taking too many golf trips(which I condemn) is somehow worse than celebrating child murderers and enabling the slave trade. Regarding the tax proportion paid it’s easy for you to ignore the amount of taxes paid. One person is one person and forcing one to pay more taxes than the other is inequality.

President Trump is the best thing to happen to America since Ronald Reagan. I was ashamed when Obama ran our country into the ground. I lost my medical insurance and when I got it back with Obama Careless my premiums went up 300%. I was ashamed when Obama gave $Billions to terrorists. I was ashamed when Obama negotiated with the Taliban to have one of our Traitors returned.

Ballot drop boxes seen as a way to bypass the post office

Quote

PHOENIX — With the Trump administration openly trying to undermine mail-in voting this fall, some election officials around the country are hoping to bypass the Postal Service by installing lots of ballot drop boxes in libraries, community centers and other public places.

Such boxes have been used with success for several years in states like Oregon, Washington and Colorado that rely largely or entirely on ballots that must be sent in. But their use is being expanded because of the coronavirus outbreak and, more recently, concerns about the post office's ability to do its job.

State or local authorities in places such as Arizona, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania are pressing for more boxes or drop-off sites that would enable ballots to reach election officials without going through the mail....

...Election officials in some states — mainly Republican-led ones — have come out against adding drop boxes, saying doing so would be too costly, raises security concerns or would violate state laws.

In a tweet Monday, Trump sought to cast doubt on the security of such boxes, saying: "So who is going to 'collect' the Ballots, and what might be done to them prior to tabulation? A Rigged Election? So bad for our Country."

Typical security measures for drop boxes include video surveillance, locks, tamper-resistant seals and chain-of-custody logs that are completed each time ballots are collected.

...Washington state has boxes in churches, fire stations, libraries, colleges, city halls, shopping centers and courthouses. In Oregon, they are not only inside libraries and government buildings but on the street outside high-traffic businesses such as Starbucks, McDonald's and movie theaters....

The bottom line is that the president is saying and demonstrating that he fully expects to call this election illegitimate when he loses the vote. It appears that many republicans and Trump supporters are perfectly comfortable with trusting a well known liar and cheat to tell them the truth about his loss.

Trump campaign sues N.J. to stop Murphy's vote-by-mail order ...

Quote

Accusing Gov. Phil Murphy of a “brazen power grab,” President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign has asked a federal judge to overturn the state’s plan to send ballots to all 6.2 million registered voters this fall.

The suit was filed in U.S. District Court by the Trump campaign, joined by the Republican National Committee and the New Jersey Republican State Committee. Among their lawyers is state Sen. Michael Testa, R-Cumberland, a frequent Murphy critic.

“With a stroke of his pen, the governor told his people their votes may not count – they may even be stolen – and that’s fine by him.”

Murphy has sought to expand mail voting due to the coronavirus pandemic, and New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal on Tuesday said the state will sue the U.S. Postal Service over concerns the Trump administration is purposely crippling the agency ahead of the surge in mail-in ballots.

“Governor Murphy has consistently put people ahead of politics and protected the health and safety of New Jersey residents throughout the pandemic, and his decision to allow universal mail in voting in the November election is no different,” state Democratic chairman John Currie said. “President Trump’s lawsuit is another clear attack on our democracy and on our voting rights, just like his efforts to destroy the Post Office and delegitimize the electoral process.”

Voting With A New Blockchain Patent

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office today made public a patent application from the USPS titled ‘Secure Voting System’ that describes using blockchain technology to secure mail-in voting. Filed on February 7, 2020, and the invention is described as, “A voting system that can use the security of blockchain and the mail to provide a reliable voting system. A registered voter receives a computer readable code in the mail and confirms identity and confirms correct ballot information in an election. The system separates voter identification and votes to ensure vote anonymity, and stores votes on a distributed ledger in a blockchain.”.

The USPS says in the patent, “Voters generally wish to be able to vote for elected officials or on other issues in a manner that is convenient and secure. Further, those holding elections wish to be able to ensure that election results have not been tampered with and that the results actually correspond to the votes that were cast. A blockchain allows the tracking of the various types of necessary data in a way that is secure and allows others to easily confirm that data has not been altered”...

Nobody can take this seriously if you don't give us some documentation to what you are saying. You have to pay big insurance premiums because the Republicans insisted that young, healthy people shouldn't be forced to buy into the system, as if it's a good idea for people to get health care for free while others have to pay more. Reagan would hate Trump because he wouldn't even recognize his party after the Tea Party got in control of it. Trump has had 3 and 1/2 years to do something about drug prices and yes has forced the most egregious thieves to come down in prices for insulin and epinepherine. But that's pretty much it. At least you had the opportunity to buy health insurance. Since we are the only country in the world that ties health care to employer insurance, maybe we should reconsider that idea as inherently unfair. Everybody should be paying into the system, not just employers and employees. Oh yeah, it's depressing that we have to know the shape of the tip of his member because he's horny while his wife is in the hospital giving birth. But it's not as depressing as listening to this man admit publicly that he would do whatever it takes to win this election and send in a blowtorch to the post office when a scalpel might help. Now even the Republicans on the Intel Committee admit that he lied about his reaching out to Russia to help him in the election. Putin must be laughting.

Mail-order chicks are arriving dead, costing Maine farmers thousands of dollars

Quote

Several Maine poultry farms have received shipments of hundreds of chicks that died while being delivered by the U.S. Postal Service, either because the shipments were delayed or mishandled.

Last week Pauline Henderson was shocked when she picked up a shipment of what was supposed to be 800 live chicks from her post office in New Sharon.

Henderson, who owns and operates Pine Tree Poultry, a family farm and chicken meat processing facility that specializes in chicken pot pies, said all 800 chicks sent from a hatchery in Pennsylvania were dead....

“Usually they arrive every three weeks like clockwork,” she said Wednesday. “And out of 100 birds you may have one or two that die in shipping.”

She said the dead birds she received last week shipped in the normal amount of time but apparently were mishandled.

She said thousands of birds that moved through the Postal Service’s processing center in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, all met the same fate, affecting several farms in Maine and New Hampshire....
