I did my LPN 24 years ago. Went back and got my ASN and will finish my BSN in April 2017..... but I still have years to go, I eventually would love to teach nursing, so a doctoral degree will be in my future. For me it has been about the journey not the destination..... which is good otherwise I would have quit trying long ago.
August 1976- August 1977: LPN
August 1978-December 1980: AAS (RN)
***** insert life, four kids and such *****
2009 accumulated enough credits for a BA in Liberal Arts
September 2010- April 2011 : Completed BSN
May 2011- April 2012: Completed MSN
February 27, 2016: Completed DNP
(Along the way got my CCRN, BC-RN, and CNE)
I took my prerequisites over a period of 10 years, taking 3-6 hours a semester (occasionally more) as I could fit it into my schedule. I was a wife, mom, and owned a business out of my home so I could be at home and still earn an income. Then when my boys were in middle elementary school, I finally got the opportunity to attend nursing school. It took 2 years full-time to finish my BSN. I worked inpatient oncology and became nationally certified (OCN) at about the 3 year mark in my career. I had aspirations to go on and get my MSN as a CNS (clinical nurse specialist) in oncology but unfortunately had to go on disability due to medical reasons. I still desire to return to nursing but it seems less and less likely that will happen. I'm still young (48) but approaching an age where I will be unhireable, especially given my health issues.

I was recently accepted into nursing school and although I have A LONG way to go, I am super excited about the many career options in the nursing profession. I'm certainly entering grad school for my doctorate or masters.
I would like to know how many years it took you to reach your end goal for education/credentials.
This should be fun and enlightening :)
