I listened to a testimonial in church whereby a relative of a patient told a nurse, "Sorry, you're too ugly to care for my grandmother." Another relative retorted, "I'm sorry, but you are too ugly to care for my grandmother." The nurse was hired on a private-duty, hospital basis left immediately and did not return. The congregation in the church laughed in response to hearing the story.
I did not and do not think it's funny.
What are some of your thoughts and feelings?

To hear such a testimony in a church is a sad affair. I would like to know more regarding the context of the story, though.
I think nurses should be neat, in that their uniforms should not be wrinkled like they just got out of bed, and be clean. But, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and the attitude of a person makes them look beautiful.
I am still really confused. Was this part of an anecdote that the PREACHER was relaying? Part of his sermon? Or was this some family members talking amongst themselves during church?
Were they talking about physical ugliness, or the way the nurse behaved?? I tell my little girl all the time when she is misbehaving, "You are acting ugly".
I just don't get enough from the OP's posts to draw a conclusion or make a judgement about the whole thing.
Since when is being "ugly" a requirement for excellent nursing care? Through the years I've worked with some "ugly" nurses who would make a train take a dirt road! They were outstanding nurses who could take care of me anytime, as opposed to a foo-foo nurse so concerned about her makeup and "hairdo"!!

That was mean to say that because it was very inconsiderate of the "ugly" nurse's feelings. The bottom line is that we live in a very superficial world. That was unprofessional to make the comment in the first place and very out of place to even mention it at church. It was said during a testiomonial? NOOOO!! God teaches love, a laugh @ someone's emtional expense isn't cool. What would have been funny was if the nurse said, "Fine, I'll leave. Just know that your health is worse than my looks. Hope you make it to the new year."
The family would have been speechless. Would that have made the Sunday morning testimonials?
I agree with those who say that this was very inappropriate. I would think that the pastor should be informed about your misgivings. It would not hurt to write him a short letter. This offends me enough that I would seriously consider no longer attending this particular church. If it happens once, it could very easily be considered acceptable behavior all the time. I don't go to church to be ridiculed, or to ridicule others.
*gets ugly stick out and hides between the pews all ninja like*
I'll show 'em ugly. :selfbonk:
Seriously, some people just need to grow up. Who are you to decide what is beautiful and what is ugly? Even "ugliness" has it's own inherent beauty.... it just depends on how you perceive it. And perception is everything. How you perceive the world shows everyone else what kind of person you are.
