Too much stuff behind ID badge!!

Published

Does your employer require you to have placards behind your ID badge? Including my ID, we have to keep 9 things on our clips including a mission and values card. Why, oh why, so much stuff?

I put them on as they're handed to me and take them off as soon as management leaves the room. And they stay off.

I don't even put them on. I just fuss with them a bit while the manager is watching and then file them in the circular file later.

I've been given a couple dozen of these at my current job. I used to faithfully put them on, then they added the big RN one (and I'm supportive of this), but that's when the rest went on my work bag where I could get them if I needed. Then TPTB decided a nurse having a bag at bedside was an infection risk so I leave the bag (with all those cards) in my locker.

Interesting. Our bags are theft risks -- don't leave them at the bedside because the visitors will steal from them.

That's why my work bag has no valuables, unless you want staff meeting minutes, an old tubex, couple extra hemostats. Stashes of extra pacifiers, sample size baby lotion & extra pens (all paid for outta my pocket, we've had some stockroom problems).

HA HA HA HA - I soooo identify with all the 'badge hangers'. It's ridiculous.

Does anyone else remember that great scene in the movie Office Space when waitress Jennifer Anniston reams her smarmy boss about having to wear "37 pieces of flair" for her job at Chatchki's? This seems to be a disturbing parallel to our badge bling.

Ugh! While I like having SOME information with my badge (some emergency phone numbers/codes I wouldn't remember when I needed them fast) -- it's gotten out of control.

Too much stuff!

I have my go to phone numbers on the part of the RN badge you can't see. I also have my titration cheat sheet. Thats it.

HouTx, that is hilarious! I had forgotten about that "pieces of flair" scene!! Too darn funny!!!!

HAHAHA! We have like 15 codes on the back of our badges!! Code Pink, Code Gray OH MY

Yes. I recently added a clip on pen light and now the lanyard won't stay in the reel. Dah well.

It does come in handy. Recently we had a code freeze called over the intercom and we were all like "what's that?"

Turns out we had a shooter in the building. Took 3 mins to find the card with all of the codes on it though, lol

I don't know what I'm required to have on my badge. But recently I removed everything but my ID and my RN placard because I got tired of it being weighed down. I know all the codes and RACE/PASS by heart, and the facility's values and statements are plastered on every other wall. Any codes/numbers I need to have on me I write on the back of the RN placard. So why should I have all that the extra plastic?
