I just finished watching the Today show interview that Matt Lauer did with Tom Cruise. I'm quite simply mystified by his take on psychiatry. He claims to know more about it than just about anyone, including those with medical degrees. I'm just curious about what others think about his vocal opinion on the subject. Am I crazy or does HE need a psychiatrist?

he does... i work with the elderly that have behaviors.. we take those that other facilties either won't take or can't handle...through the use of medications we are able to give them some form of quality of life... while i love tom cruise.. and respect his work as an actor.. he should stick to what he knows.. ACTING!!!.. i can't act and would not profess to tell an actor how to act.. he should not tell a doctor.. and a psychiatrist for that matter.. trained in these matters .. how to doctor!!!...
Wonder what Tom Cruise would think about Sybil?
I'm watching the movie Sybil right now. It's on the Oxygen channel. It's a crime what was done to that poor girl.
I wonder how Tom Cruise would handle Sybil and patients who've been through the abuse she has been through? This story is tearing me apart. Very hard to watch knowing it is a true story.
Anyone else know about Sybil or see the movie Sybil? What do you think?
Tink-you were really on a roll there :) ......Incidentally I saw the War of the Worlds this week and loved it...Scared the beejeezus out of me from the first 5 mins........That said-Tom Cruise is still nutts as was Ron L Hubbard....do some searches and read some of his papers....WACKO......I really believe that this "church" is heading for some major scandal and there will come a day when they all realize just how badly they have been duped..Until then-do the research and judge for yourselves...
War of the Worlds was a good movie. Kudoos to Speilberg. I noticed a few flaws in the movie, but it is science Fiction -- thank goodness.
The very idea of something like that being real is mortifying to imgagine.
Ron Hubbard should stick with writing his science FICTION and leave the real sciences to the experts. He obviously does not know how to recognize the difference between FACT and FICTION.

Yes, I"ve seen Sybil. It is a disturbing movie. There is NO way that someone with DID could be treated successfully with vitamins and exercise alone.
He would probably say that she was faking it, give her a bottle of vitamins, a copy of Ron Hubbard's book, and tell her to go to the gym. :rotfl:
Ya know, if my hubby were schizophrenic and went off his meds because 'Tom Cruise said I should'...I'd be tempted to sue. Maybe it will happen out there. Hope so. He needs to be taken down a peg.
I hope that someone does sue him. Celebrities should not be allowed to represent themselves as an expert on medical matters because they are not qualified to do so.
He would not be allowed to appear in a court of law as an expert witness on the subject matter, so he should not be allowed to deceptively represent himself as such, especially on national television.
Just finished watching Sybil. That poor girl had eleven different personalities -- "kids" -- living inside of her. The doctor worked with Sybil for eleven years before Sybil came to terms with her abuse...making peace with all eleven personalities. She is now a professor of art on the eastcoast somewhere. Amazing recovery! Gosh! The suffering she endured for so long. Her mother's behavior and personality were that of a schizophrenic and bipolar personality all in one. I wonder who abused her as a child...her father perhaps? Sybil's grandmother seemed perfectly normal to Sybil. I need to read the book now. :uhoh21:
Evidently, none of Tom Cruise's ex wives (plural) have had a chemical disorder, or he'd have full respect for Zoloft and maybe ditch scientology alltogether. Hehe:devil:

You are right hanesjenny! :chuckle I truly wouldn't wish any harm to come to Tom or his family just for him to learn how misguided he is in this particular area. I've always liked Tom, but I do disagree completely with his take on psychiatry and drugs used to treat people who present with chemical imbalances. Not only do I take an antidepressant, but others in my family, friends of mine, other nurses I'm close to, some of their own children, and two of my grandchildren have as well -- either in the past and/or still today. :)
Eventually, Tom will come to "see" more clearly what he's been saying about psychiatry...one can only hope right? :) He just seems to be going through a major "something or other" of late. Nicole Kidman says he is an excellent father, so as long as she trust him with their children (whom he also admits to being involved in scientology with him), all is well in their family unit. Nicole seems to be a very sincere parent whenever I see her on t.v. talking about herself and children, so I'm sure she'd be the first one to say to Tom...Okay, Tom, enough already! The children do not need this type of exposure. :)
