I just finished watching the Today show interview that Matt Lauer did with Tom Cruise. I'm quite simply mystified by his take on psychiatry. He claims to know more about it than just about anyone, including those with medical degrees. I'm just curious about what others think about his vocal opinion on the subject. Am I crazy or does HE need a psychiatrist?
I don't know if people already posted this already in this thread (I went quite a few pages and I didn't see it, so far).
Scientology is a bit different than other religion because they DO harass people who disagree with them. They do it legally (just by brining lawsuits and they got deep pockets) and illegally.

Read how they use the legal system to silent their critics.
Look at some of the controversy they are in. Scary.
I personally have some indirect experience with them and I would definitely stay away from them as far as possible.
There is at least one case where there is death involve and it finally gotten settle out of court. (http://www.sptimes.com/2004/05/29/Tampabay/Scientologists_settle.shtml)
Scientology is famous for silencing their critics using dubious methods. Read the case on how they tried to silent Time magazine (
http://www.xenu.net/archive/media/time910605.html).
Read how they tried to even threaten google because google has linked to antiscientology sites (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/1949879.stm).
Read how some of the countries in Europe is trying to ban Scientology (

)
What gets me the most is what they did on 9/11 with the Volunteer Ministers.

Here are a few what I consider to be reliable sites.
Look at
http://www.answers.com/scientology
This is interesting as it has a warning that it is disputed. If you look at the log of the dispute, you'll see how scientologist is trying to change it in a not too ethical manner.
Operation Claim Bake. A good site on what scientology is about.
When TC ripped Matt for not knowing about psychiatric history, he is not talking about psychiatric history as we know it. It has a double meaning to scientologist.
According to scientologist (when they get up to the high level in the organization like TC), psychiatrist actually existed millions years ago and they are responsible was killing millions of lives.

Psychiatrists are evil. Some of the current evils they are responsible for range from WW1 to even September 11.

A scintology mag on Sep 11. Just do a search on psychiatrist.
That is what TC mean by psychiatric history. People who are not familiar with scientology will think of something totally different.
Problem with online petitions is they really don't work IMO. It's clear TC is digging himself a deep hole with his attitudes about meds and such. I've seen comments about him on nearly every board I visit. A new W interview with Katie Holmes is also causing a stir. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,162082,00.html
I'm really surprised people would take TC serious about a medical issue, but unfortunately there are a lot of gullible people in this world. I'd love to see the scientologists outed for who they really are, but they've been scrutinized so many times and they never go away. I hear their numbers are shrinking, but I think that has a lot to do with the Internet and communication.
Btw: They are against non-psych medications as well, but I'm not clear as to how that really works. I know an epileptic died at their facility because he wasn't allowed to take those meds, as well as a few other mysterious deaths.
Like, why was this doctor prescribing Valium and Noctec (Choral Hydrate) to Lisa before her death? http://www.lisamcpherson.org/sp_times_8-4-01.htm
Even LRH's own son :http://www.whyaretheydead.net/
Unfortunately Danu3, when Xenu.net was brought up in my thread I had up in GD, people immediately called it an anti-scientology site, so of course it's biased. Nevermind the fact the site has link to real documents that prove how crazy and insane it is. PLus a lot of former high level OTs who finally got out of it are on there and other sites to tell how it really is a cult that steals money and brainwashes people.
Here's what the LRH books teach is the history of scientology:

Dianetics and all his schizophrenic writings can be cross referenced to this. They really believe this nonsense.

It is unfortunate. I choose xenu.net because they do have cross reference where you can check it yourself. Also if I remember right, they were almost shut down by scientologist.
The other sites you mention is more neutral and it definitely show what scientologist believes. I personally don't really care what they believe. But I do care when they start to harrass people who disagree. Also unfortunately, people do listen to people like TC and guess out, doctors and nurses are the one who ended up treating people who listen to TC in the ER. Especially with mental illness, many families had gone through hell more than once and finally their love ones are stable with the right meds and can have a life. If they stop after listening to TC, the whole family will go through hell again and there is nothing they can do.
Now to be fair, scientologist are not the only one who does this. Antipsychiatry groups and certain extreme conservative Christian group and a few other religious groups also are quite anti-psychiatry. But the difference is that they don't go around bulling people legally and illegally.

Did anyone see Oprah's "After The Show" this evening on Oxygen? There were four celebrities speaking up about the necessity of antidepressants and psyche meds for bipolar conditions; etc. All four used to be and some still are on meds for these two conditions I mentioned. I only caught the last ten minutes of the show, but I'm sure I can find it posted on her website to learn more about what was said. I'm just glad others in the same financial class and status are speaking up "pro" the necessity of these meds. At the end of the show, they did show a caption where Kelly Preston was agreeing with Tom.
But I wonder, to the people who left Scientology, do they now need psych meds, to reverse the effects of the brain washing?!? :uhoh21: Just a thought!

Hmmm....now that would be an interesting study for someone to undertake. :uhoh21: If you come across such a study, please do share it here with us. I'd like to know the statistics of that. :)
Just read an article in today's Chicago Tribune....middle of the front section. It basically said that Mr. Cruise is NOT welcome in Paris, and that the country believes Scientology is a cult.
I would attempt to add a line where the article could be accessed, but don't know how to do that......sorry!

Article...... Meals that Heal
First paragragh quote:
"There's a growing awareness that simple choices like what we eat play a powerful role in our health and well being-not only in preventing disease but also in feeeling better and in the quality of life," Says Dr. Dean Ornish President of the Preventive Medicine Research Insititute in Sausalito, California.
They also recommend that if you are already taking medications for your ailments, don't stop taking them....but here are some suggestions to help wean you off of drugs........and IN MY opinion help break the cycle of genetic patterns of behavior....like binge eating, alcohol, depression, no exercise.

Oooh-interesting points here. What a lawsuit that would be! I'm sure someone is cooking up a lawsuit now.
