Getting CNAs to WEAR GLOVES & WASH HANDS?!?!
Wow, this post actually got my attention. At the LTCF where I work, almost all the cna's and care staff have some degree of difficulty with english. It is very frustrating since all the lead/management staff speak english fluently and they (cna's and care staff) do not. I'm new to the facility (6 months) and I used to take offense to the staff because I speak english fluently. They have tremendous difficulty with the idea of infection control. When I brought it up with our nurse (whom I don't respect) she took offense to my suggestions. Hence the reason I no longer have respect for her. I'm only doing what I'm suppose to do and I get the bad reputation of thinking I'm better than everyone else. I'm hoping to move on to another facility where my attention to infection control/ washing hands/using gloves is appreciated. So yes, I totally understand with the frustration. Basically you can not change people and from what I learned at our LTCF the lead/management staff is totally dependent on their non-english speaking staff.

Staph Infections in LTC
Hello, I recently started working as a caregiver at a LTC here in S. Calif ( 3 months). Yesterday a family member of a resident that I provide care for, visited. This family member gave me in depth detail on how their family member had a raging staph infection last year and proceeded to tell me to take precaution when handling their family member. I was mortified because I was never told this. I was very careful in speaking with the family member and never showed any lack of knowledge to the information she disclosed. I am concerned now because who do I go to with this information? I want to speak with my ED of the facility and ask that she inform all the other caregivers of this information. What would you do in my situation? Thank You

Palomar CC, San Marcos
Hello, After spending just over a year at Riverside CC, my husband is now having us relocate down to the San Diego area. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited about the move but I'm also looking into the schools down there. So far, San Marcos looks like a promising city for us.....Does anyone know about Palomar College?...is it a great school? I saw that they have a nursing program...I just need to transfer all my courses I have taken so far....well if anyone knows about the area...please let me know:) Thank You, Tessa

Organic Foods Anyone?
Are there any people here on this forum that have taken interest into going organic with there food choices? I'm looking to share stories with other people who have taken an active role in eating better nutritionally......I know this will help me in the future with my role as a nurse. I'm thinking of going into nutrition and preventative care nursing. I grew up in a household that ate alot of the wrong foods...hispanic culture. I live a healthy lifestyle now and I'm looking for other people to share words of encouragement and success stories. I have to let you know I am really into this, so I would like to meet other like minded people, if there are any on this website!:) Pre-nursing @ Riverside Community College 3 full semesters in.....possibly 3 more to go before I can apply to nursing program! Yippee currently have a 3.5GPA (thanks):) Tessa~

Tom Cruises' take on Psychiatry
I meant to say that THERE are suggestions in the article to help wean one off of drugs....with healthy eating. QUOTE=Tessa4RN]Reader's Digest August issue 2005 Article...... Meals that Heal First paragragh quote: "There's a growing awareness that simple choices like what we eat play a powerful role in our health and well being-not only in preventing disease but also in feeeling better and in the quality of life," Says Dr. Dean Ornish President of the Preventive Medicine Research Insititute in Sausalito, California. They also recommend that if you are already taking medications for your ailments, don't stop taking them....but there are some suggestions to help wean you off of drugs........and IN MY opinion help break the cycle of genetic patterns of behavior....like binge eating, alcohol, depression, no exercise. :)

Question about volunteering
Exactly, I work and go to school as well....but I find time for volunteer work. You can gain knowledge and personal experience from being exposed to all kinds of people. I think it helps you relate to people on a human level...,...something even paid nurses do not even express.

Question about volunteering
I currentlly do Hospice volunteering for Odyssey Healthcare. They are amazing and are all over the U.S. You may be able to find a facility close to you. Hospice care is not for everyone, but if you have ever experienced the illness and loss of someone ( I have, both my parents by the time I was 27) then you will understand the true nature and importance of hospice care. I currently have two families I visit a couple times a month. I love it and am considering continuing in the hospice care once I become an RN. Tessa~

Exactly, my point....they are just following patterns/environment of behaviors. Like I said before....this is my opinion and people should open their minds to new ways of thinking. I'm looking at all my resources and I won't have someone tell me that this is the only way....I'm sticking to good old nutrition as a way of helping alleviate disease and mental diseases. Long term exposure to the wrong elements CAN have an effect....smoking, drinking, stress, wrong diet, environmental toxins, pregnant mother not taking care of herself....being exposed to these elements...all are passed down and copied by infants and children.....a simple drug will not take that away...only mask it. There needs to be a constant self improvement taken by the individuals. Thank you for your time...but I have exhausted my time here.... I will not be responding to any other posts here...so once again thank you and I hope this has given you something to think about. P.S. I have experiences of my own, myself and family.....we did not need drugs. It is all based upon environment and patterns of behavior. If a family has known to have a supposed depressed individual in their family and they have taken drugs to alleviate the pain...then the next and the next generation will do so as well. It needs to stop. Done!

Well quite possibly you had no reactions to your unhealthy eating habits....but what I'm saying is that some people are predisposed to react to certain foods. Maybe you were the chosen one and nothing happened to you. But what I'm saying is that there are alot of people who can alter their mental states and moods by just changing their diet and adding exercise...something most people do not even consider. Trust me the individual I know, knows a whole lot more than you or I know.....I hope you can open your mind to new information instead of everything that is being presented to us as far as prescription drugs. Besides, of course anyone who has a depressed family member or bipolar, schizo in their family is only following in the patterns of behavior, not genetic makeup. Thanks for letting ME express my opinion. Tessa:rolleyes:
