Today's Mini Rant

Specialties School

Published

I don't typically rant on here . . . and I don't know why my patience today is low . . . BUT----

1) Take kid off bus early for vomiting, chills and temp 99.8. Ten minutes later, temp 101.5, call parent who says "can't you just give him some medicine and let him rest? Parent arrives 75 minutes later . . . temp now 102.5 . . . kid wouldn't take Tylenol . . .

2) Staff member who says "can you listen to my heart?" Me: "Why?" Her: "It doesn't feel right. I can't feel it." putting her hand on her chest. No pain, no SOB, no history, denies palpitations . . . . I listen and get normal, regular AR/Radial Rate. Me: "if IT (whatever that is) doesn't go away, see your doctor. I don't see any emergent problem."

Sigh . . . . Happy Wednesday fellow wonder nurses!

Wet your fingers and flick water at her face. Someone who is unconscious will not react. Someone who is faking will flinch when the water hits them. Just keep a cup of water on your desk where you can quickly and discreetly wet your fingers.

Boo, you're no fun, let the kid smack themselves in the face.

Well. I can't feel my cerebellum, but I know it's there. Teachers need to chill.

This is why we need you here, Far.....

Mom is not a medical professional. The staff does not know why mom requested no sternal rub and I haven't gotten an answer from mom.

Ima guess that in another episode, Sweet Baby said the sternal rub "hurt" and that is the genesis of mom's directive....

My mini rant is I need to finish up my screenings but since I get called back to my office every time, I haven't finished. My Principal isn't helping either, but I love my head nurse, she's representing me like no tomorrow.

This just irks me to no end!!! I don't mind getting called on legit / urgent stuff. But, it NEVER IS!!!!

I would like for teachers to have to do tutoring at the same time they are proctoring state mandated testing!!!

It seems pretty cut and dried to me. Daughter has been outed before by a sternal rub. Most parents wouldn't know what a sternal rub is, let alone request that one not be done.

This is brilliant. No physical contact for parents to get upset about, and no "harmful chemicals".

I'm not a school nurse, but I love reading the threads here. I am in awe of all of you!!!!!

My mini rant for the day is I am tired of kids telling lies. You are in MS, you know right from wrong!!! I have caught 3 in lies today alone. One even tried to throw a teacher under the bus...........

Totally agree!! I am at a high school, and can't believe the amount of lies kids tell. Right to your face, look you in the eye, and it doesn't even phase them. It's disturbing to me. I have become so suspicious of kids now, it's a shame.

And just where in the heck have you been Missy?!

I am late to the party, but I have been wondering this same thing! (Re Farawyn’s absence.)

Today I received a note from a parent. The student was c/o wrist pain and "could (I) check his wrist to see if it still bothering him?"

Um...he's in here, crying. No medication on board. No x-ray to confirm if it's a break on the ulnar side but that's what I'm betting because there's a deformity....

Also the dad who picked the kid up said mom had to tie the kid's shoes this AM so...yeah. That should have been a sign that it's "still bothering him."

I am sorry to be ranty. This one got to me.
