  1. I work at a high school and I am looking for Any suggestions on what works for getting parents to turn paperwork in?? I’ve sent home forms at the end of the previous school year, emailed parents over the summer, and still so many parents do not turn in action plans and med forms for students with seizures, severe allergies etc. at the beginning of the school year. I’m hoping someone has some insight to a process that actually works! How frequently do you call, email, or mail home forms requesting completed forms? What do you do when student has epipens in their backpacks but parents don’t provide documentation for it? Any help is appreciated!!Thanks!
  2. Jnemartin or Nurse Tilly would one of you be able to share that PowerPoint with me as well? I’d really appreciate it! My email is [email protected]
  3. Eastern University in PA. It's all online though so you wouldn't have to go there at all.
  4. It's also National teacher appreciation week. So I think they forget about nurse's day/week...lol.
  5. Thank you. I was thinking of doing something like that as well.
  6. I'm suprised most of you have not heard of cyber students. I am in PA and it is becoming more popular in my area. It's basically an online school through your district. There are some cyber schools that are state or privately run, but most districts in my area have their own cyber program as well.
  7. My school district has their own cyber program and we have a decent number of students that are in the cyber program. The last 2 years, I sent letters to the parents of the cyber students requesting to bring the students in for screenings to be done, but hardly ever get any responses. Anyone have any ideas that have worked for getting their cyber students screened? How many times do you contact parents regarding this??
  8. Thank you for the suggestions everyone!! I had the conversation with the mom today and it went well. I also discussed with her how teenagers wear the same hoodies everyday to school, and she did say that her daughter does that and it may be part of the problem. Plus I asked about animals in the house, and if they lay on hoodies, etc, which mom said happens as well. Hopefully things get better now. Otherwise, not much more we can do.

Totally agree!! I am at a high school, and can't believe the amount of lies kids tell. Right to your face, look you in the eye, and it doesn't even phase them. It's disturbing to me. I have become so suspicious of kids now, it's a shame.
  10. Any good suggestions of how to tell a parent that their High School child has an odor that is bothering students around them in class? I already had the hygiene discussion with the student last week, (which is not my favorite thing to do) and am still getting complaints since then. Any good ideas on how to approach this issue with parents? Also, if anyone has found something that works good for them for the hygiene talk with students too, I'd love suggestions. It's my 3rd year as a school nurse, in a high school. Things get better every year, but I am still trying to find the best way to handle things, run the office, etc.
  11. That letter is a great idea. Would you be able to share it?
