I am considering trying my luck as a nurse in New Zealand.
Can anyone here help me and tell me what to expect in the 2-3months competency assessment? Is it really like attending formal school where you have lectures, exams, reports? Anyone ever failed that??
How long does it take to get a working visa after registering with NCNZ, provided of course one passed the assessment? How long does it take to get permanent residency?
How do I find a good consulting agency that can help me with the processing? Or dont I need one anymore?
I also would appreciate it if Filipino Nurses can share their experiences in NZ. Was the transition hard? How do you like the weather?

Contact the nursing council. Call or email them if you want to.They will reply to you. I don't think that there's an expiration for the decision letter. It will take you longer time to enroll for the CAP though coz usually the schools are full. Don't worry, visit the website of nursing council and you will get lots of school to enroll to. Contact them via phone or email regarding their fees and requirements. Consider as well the place where you will live in while doing the CAP. Goodluck!

There is an expiration date for the decision letter. It used to be 2 years I am just not sure now if it's still the same.
to janet - after you have submitted all the necessary papers it usually takes about a month or two for the council to process your papers . they should have received the ff papers before they could start the processing
1. IELTS results -- must be mailed by the testing center
2. Transcript - must be mailed by your school
3. PRC papers - must be verified and mailed by PRC
4. birth certificate, and or marriage cert , passport and PRC board certificate- you must have it authenticated by malacanang , dfa , nz embassy and to be mailed by you.
5. completed application form - must be mailed by you
6. professional and character references - must be mailed by your referees

Since then, I had trouble finding CAP providers in NZ because of the slots being quickly filled from late 2010 up to this year. Every school/institution/hospital I tried to inquire, doesn't have any intake available for 2011. Since my recommendation letter from NCNZ will expire this October, I feel that my chances on landing a CAP school are really very slim.
do u guys have any suggestions/information that I might be able to consider?

now, after downloading some docs from ncnz and reading all those helpful posts, cud someone here please please advise us re:
cap placements... what happens then if we too face the same problem as the post above? as stated on ncnz...
"due to the high demand for places in the competency assessment programmes, there is a current waiting time of over 12 months to get into most of these.
there may be instances where a person who has been informed they need to complete a competency assessment programme, may not be able to gain entry into one within the timeframe / life of their application."

i have read that one must have some docs authenticated by dfa manila, nz embassy. but i could not find the exact statement in the app-join-nz-register-26may10.pdf or the guide-april11.pdf . it says only that
"all documents must be either original or certified as true copy of the original by a solicitor, justice of the peace, notary public, etc"
i'm asking this since i am here in iloilo city, we do have a local dfa office here. but as mentioned in the previous posts, only dfa manila& nz embassy can authenticate docs...btw what docs needs to be 'red ribboned'? i really cant find it here...yet...

it's good that some got positive results but how did u 'explain' your case? i'm really interested. i'm not a second courser. i'm a shifter but i have a very messy transcipt. i really wanted to be a nurse coz my mom is also a nurse. but when i took up nsg then (1996) we were only 20 in a class. some teachers wud even suggest that we shift to a different course... later after 2 years of nsg, i did shift to bs bio but did not finish it due to financial problems. then last 2005 i again enrolled and took up a 4yr bsn course (the school insisted i take all subjects except pe, because they have a different course description, etc,etc) if i do sum it up i did spend 6 years in nursing sch! i'm thinking i may have problems with this.

payment to the new zealand embassy in manila from within the philippines can be made:
a) in person by paying in cash at the embassy;
b) sending cash via courier to the embassy (nationwide courier companies that accept cash include lbc express inc and 2go) or;
c) by sending a local bank manager's cheque to the embassy (please note clearance will depend on how long the courier takes to deliver the cheque; 3-5 days will also be required for the bank to clear the cheque). the bank manager's cheque is to be made out to the new zealand embassy manila.
