Good day!
I am considering trying my luck as a nurse in New Zealand.
Can anyone here help me and tell me what to expect in the 2-3months competency assessment? Is it really like attending formal school where you have lectures, exams, reports? Anyone ever failed that??
How long does it take to get a working visa after registering with NCNZ, provided of course one passed the assessment? How long does it take to get permanent residency?
How do I find a good consulting agency that can help me with the processing? Or dont I need one anymore?
I also would appreciate it if Filipino Nurses can share their experiences in NZ. Was the transition hard? How do you like the weather?
Any practical tips about starting my application to work as a nurse there besides looking at the NCNZ website?
Thanks a lot in advance!
to nalene and bonsai, maybe i could help you by giving you some tips regarding(application process, schools, visa steps, and expenses) for the competency program for NZ. my wife is currently working on her visa for the compentency program at waiariki tech in rotorua that will start on june 5. if you have the time and money you can do all the paper works by yourself. . email me or send me a PM. thanks and have a nice day
hi, would like to ask how to start applying for it? Hope you can help me get thru.. :) thanks!
Hi im currently in nz, and is on stage 2 in processing my nursing council registration. is there a way that i can authenticate my board certificate here in nz rather than sending my document back in the Philippines? I already have the red ribbon or the philippine authentication. All i need now is the nz authentication..any help please,,,,thanks...
Evidence of nursing practice hours
The Council requires evidence of 450 hours of nursing practice hours as a registered
nurse within the last three years. This can be a letter from your employer, on letterhead
paper, signed, dated and include the authors contact details. Alternatively, we can
accept certified copies of payslips (must be 450 hours' worth).
- I guess 450 hours is about 1.8 months right? I just sent my application to NZ just 2 days ago. Hopefully all goes well. FINGERS CROSSED. The only concern I have (and I think most have this concern), is the amount of nursing experience one has. Do the CAP schools require a specific amount of experience? Because accdg to the NZNC Guide, they only require 450 hours of nursing practice? and does 450 hours mean the same as 2 months of nursing employment?
Please shed light on this matter fellow nurses. Responses will be very much appreciated.
i already have my cap school at wesley institute of learning and my schedule is this coming july., i am just hoping now that i could find a sponsor :)
hi raphaelluigi!
congratulations for having been accepted to a cap school.
how were you informed by wesley institute of learning that you are accepted in their school? did they send you an email? how many days did it take from the time you applied before they were able to give you any response?
i am still awaiting approval from cap schools and i was not able to find any yet since all of them are full until 2013. any tips?
thanks for your help!! :)

i need help with my application in new zealand, i have received the letter from the council asking me to complete the cap but is it true that they're all full till next year?
one more thing, the preliminary review of the documentation indicated that my education and practice has been mainly in "general and obstetric nursing" and that the placement component of my cap should be in the same setting. does this mean that i wont be able to apply to bupa care services since they cater nursing and rest homes for the elderly?
Yes all schools who do CAP are full.General and obstetric nursing only means that you can not work in mental health. Rest homes belong to the general category. The disadvantage of working in rest homes is that when you decide to transfer to a government facility in the future, they will consider you a new grad, regardless of how many years you have worked in the rest home set up.
Hello,
i hope someone could help me regarding my question:
1. After applying with the nursing council in NZ, how can I apply in the immigration?
2. What visa should I apply for and what is the reason I should give out to the embassy?
3. How long will it take applying for a visa?
4. I read somewhere apply for visitor and proceed with the cap?
5. How can we apply for the CAP is it upon arrival?
Kindly help. Thank you
CAP I believe is full up this year and maybe even next year. You have to apply before arriving in NZ
Check the NZ government website in regards routes you can take to immigrate
