To Do: Over Summer Vacation

Published

What do yall have to do over summer vacation? Mine is only a week, so my list is short (sort of).

  • Deep clean everything. (Vacuming, dusting, all that stuff that never gets done).
  • Keep up excercise program (getting harder as the weeks progress).
  • Sign up for scholarship test.
  • Make a nursing school binder (I'm a pre-nursing student working of my pre-reqs).
  • Figure out if I want to sign up for the CNA course, and when. (how?)
  • Email leader of Christian Student Fellowship. This is a letter of my testimony as a leader and it is sent to sponcers (etc).
  • Scholarship binder (dates, things, etc).
  • Read some books for fun! :)

Whats your plan??

I moved to CO from CA in 2003 but returned in 2007. I really liked it there. What school do you go to? I did my prereqs at Arapahoe Community College and would probably still be waiting to get in if I hadn't moved back!

Really?? Back when I first got on the WL in 2006 it was done different and you chose 3 different schools, I did Front Range, Fort Morgan and Arapahoe for choice 3 just to pick one. Arapahoe was the first one I got notice from right away.

Fort Morgan is pretty quick to get into also but it's a commute.

I got to Front Range CC- Larimer campus.

Where in Ca are you?

When I finished the semester @ Arapahoe in Spring '07, they were just calling up people from the WL who'd been there a long time. I do remember a revamping going on, but it didn't give any more hope of getting in any sooner.

Yea a lot of schools are revamping here, I turned down ACC and Fort Morgan because I was pregnant and decided I would just wait for the school that was 7 mins away that way my daughter was older when I started. But my school is turning to go more competitive.

ACC had a good program too from what I heard. I was called up for acceptance but stayed in Kansas. That place still reminds me of a prison.

What ACC?? I have never been there or to their Campus. I wasn't going to commute to Denver, I would have rather commuted to Fort Morgan or Cheyenne.

Yeah, it's a series of concrete buildings with indoor-only access... for which I was happy about since it's so cold, wet, and snowy most of the year. Happy to be back in California! :smokin:

Sleep.

Apologize to friends that I've neglected this past semester. :(

Updated list:

  • Work (found a job -- well, actually, it was given to me without any solicitation at all -- yay networking through church!): 24 hours per week at $8/hour. Monday-Thursday 9-3.
  • Get a physical (my medical forms have to be sent by June 15 and I need a new physical done even though my last one was less than a year ago -- and ugh, we have to pay for this one too since past 18, insurance only pays for one every 2 years)
  • Fill out the FAFSA even though I'm not applying for financial aid -- it's a requirement by my school
  • Start driving (gotta call and schedule some lessons) and finally get my license -- I'm almost 20 and I still definitely don't drive
  • Spend 6 weeks of my life devoted to A&P II which I am taking online July 6-August 12
  • Hang out with friends
  • Go to the drive in movies and see Despicable Me with my Faith Sharing group
  • Go on an end of summer camping trip with my friends
  • Prepare for my first semester of NS -- buy books, uniform, supplies etc. and get more detailed info from my friend who will be a second year nursing student
  • Buy new clothes (I need nicer clothes that I can wear on Mondays when I go in to get my patient info for my Tuesday clinicals since I pretty much only own jeans and sweat/yoga pants and t-shirts and hoodies -- that's what you get when you're 19 and live in college dorms)

Wow that's quite a list!

The first thing (working) starts next week! I'm so stoked! I'll be working in a dental office sterilizing and packaging instruments and supplies, cleaning rooms, learning about infection control and some paperwork/filing while getting $8/hour. It's not what I wanted (I wanted to work as a hospital aide, but that fell through as did CNA training and being a resident aide at a nursing home)...but it's better than retail which is where I thought I would end up because it is in a health care setting and I'll learn some stuff that will be applicable later, plus, the pay is better!

Well added two more desitnations to my list. Lake Powell for a week and Wyoming for memorial day weekend. I dont think I will ever be home. Sure feels good to be done though. For the summer at least

So funny story about my flight down to Orlando yesterday. Just minding my own business reading when my girlfriend taps me on the shoulder saying they just made an announcement over the speakers asking for any doctors or nurses to go to the back of the plane they needed assistance. Turns out someone had collapsed, lost consciousness and was vomiting profusely and they needed help. Just so turns out there was a cardiac physician sitting in front of me and I went back too just to see if they needed help. Ended up doing vitals and all sorts of other things just helping the doc out. Was really neat to be doing a clinical at 35000 feet! Never thought that would ever happen in my lifetime but I guess you never know when people will need help.

  • Sleep late =D
  • Go to the gym for three months and try to lose about 40-45 pounds
  • CPR/BLS certification
  • Get my clinical clearance sheets filled out + drug/background screenings
  • Do a little review of A&P (got an A and B in this class but I still need it I think)
  • Study some general med terminology (we don't get a class for this)
  • Spend some time with my family specifically my nephew who starts Kindergarten in Sept.
  • Continue my PS3 video game binge
  • Go to a live wrestling show
  • Buy the required physical assessment kit
  • Catch up and hang out with HS and college friends that I haven't seen in a while

My summer vacation started last week and we don't go back till September so I've got plenty of time to do all this stuff lol. Then I've got nursing orientation on Sept 1st and classes start Sept 7th! I'm so excited. Most of my fellow nursing students starting with me had to take summer classes, so I'm thankful I didn't have to.
