I agree with Trauma. I work in a Trauma ICU in Detroit and see this all the time. That guy is someone's family member, someone's son, someone's dad but WHO ARE YOU TO JUDGE! I'm not a big fan of thugs but I'm sure your butt would be crying and screaming the same way this patient is had your orifice been shot. A patient deserves proper care not to be videotaped and put on youtube, irregardless of the circumstances.

Yesterday in Pittsburgh a thug was surrounded by police while in his vehicle. He was told to step out of the vehicle and put his hands up. His response was to ram into the police cars and try to run down the officers. His girlfriend tried to get out of the car and he promptly ran over her legs. The police then shot him (they think) and he fled on foot. To the cops shock when they looked in the vehicle they found a one year old infant. My guess is that he is probably in an ER somewhere and the staff are being treated to the same show right now. My point in posting this is that I doubt it is a hipaa violation because it it happens nightly in a small city like mine. Any ER anywhere could produce this same story.

I couldn't get past the language, spelling, and punctuation in the OP...but maybe it's me, a white city boy from the NW.

Who whines the most about IV starts? Usually the buff guy with a full sleeve of tattoos.

I'm surprised some of you jumped down the OP's throat about being "jaded"...sounded to me like the OP was a little embarrassed and ashamed of this so called "badazz"...nothing wrong with that to me. And he said he wanted to video tape him, not that he did...big difference.

When jaded becomes a problem to me is when you think every pt coming in is full of it and is just drug seeking or shouldn't be there bothering you....I didn't get that sense from the OP.

In Finland you could not write so presicely of a patient case, you would get caught. Well, thats here.

I would not write a post like the OP's, but I understand the sentiment behind it.

Those of you who work in urban ERs ... have you truly never stood at the bedside of a patient who you know has caused mayhem to others and thought well, you're not so tough now, are you? The gun and the knife in your pants and the disregard for the well being of others didn't protect you, did it? You bleed just like your other victims, don't you?

I'm just saying that I think those thoughts are within the realm of normal, human reactions.

I was going to post something along that line. The person posted that to vent feeling and thoughts that can't be expressed or acted upon. I have had similar thoughts about people, ("you brought this on yourself"). But my actions and words were always those of a professional. It is OK with me it a person comes here to say how they feel.

I dont want to ruin the atmosphere here and i feel the same that nurses need a community where to share theyr feelings but is it ok to write about a patient case so that the patient really can identify him self if he reads this

Calm down, slugger. The most that was identified was a 28 year old involved in a shootout. Happens every single day.

Sure, becoming a gangster might have been his best option, and economically would make the most sense. Does that mean it's justified? Are people honestly standing up for criminal behavior, then blasting the OP? Get a grip, we all have opinions, and I'm siding with those who realize that this guy most likely has caused a great deal of suffering to others, unless he carries a gun around and runs with that crowd to bring candy to children and carry out groceries for little ol' ladies

If someone here is claiming to have never felt a small bit of satisfaction at the expense of another who deserved whatever it is they got, then they're either in denial or Jesus. I'm willing to bet on the former. Otherwise, I've got some water for you and it's almost noon.

I don't think you are jaded dude and I wouldn't be concerned about posting your story either. What you described is a scenario that plays out in hospitals throughout the United States on a daily basis. Where I am at we see this excitement sometimes up to 3 times a day. I am not a big fan of religious hoopla, but Galatians got this one right, in that whatsoever a man soweth he shall also reap. Everyone has the innate ability to know and choose right from wrong. When you choose to live a life of violence you are eventually gonna get your return investment. It is fun placing large lines in veins and arteries, playing with the rapid transfuser, and sometimes getting to electrocute these dumbasses. However, it is a tremendous drain on a facility's resources. The amount of money spent on saving these idiots just to have them return to the streets and restart the old cycle of violence is asinine. If only they could learn to shoot better.....?

The difference being, Finland has 5-5.5 million people versus the 300 million and change in the United States. Gangland shootings are very common here and it would be very difficult to tie the story of this thread to a specific event. Even more depressing if you think about it. The United States is so violent and these shootings are so common place, we can talk about them with such casual ease.

wow...it sounds like your making fun of your patient! arent nurses supposed to be non-judgemental, at least thats what they keep stressing to us in our nursing program! regardless of his lifestyle, homeless, hiv, drug addict or gangsta, we are all human...*** is soo funny about a HUMAN BEING crying for his loved ones!! hope you NEVER take care of me and my family!!
