Those that prefer to work with men

Published

So my Clinical instructor said something interesting today. She said she Hates Hates HATES!!! working with women in Nursing and she wishes that Nursing was a male dominated field so that she could stand it....

Dont know what to make of this...any thoughts or experiences?

In general working with another human being is difficult. Brains function differently. I found in a study that in women, hormones fluctuate all day. Women police officers hate working with men because of either harrasement, or being mistreated by gay male officers.

Unfortunately, we're become a very imature society.

Yes I'm okay. I just don't get why women bash women but I rarely see men bash men. I'm a feminist,so yeah I'm a little taken aback. What I'm saying though is why did. they welcome a male co worker more readily than a female. You know,on male dominated jobs the men stick together and will try to oust the lone female worker. Just read about a lawsuit involving firefighters in the newspaper.

Glad you're okay. You'd be hard-pressed to name for me women that stick together in the work place. The few you'd name are anomalies.

I've grown cynical of, "feminists", they play both sides of the fence. Not possible. Either/or, never both. You can't claim feminists when you want things a certain way and then cry foul and play the female role when it doesn't. (To clarify- by "you", I don't mean you, smartnurse)

Chivalry in men is almost dead.... and it's the feminist women that are killing it!

truthfully I find most men in the nursing field are lazy....not all...but most....I do prefer how they interact in relationships for the most part but they don't kill themsleves....in my experience

funny how we see things differently.

while i understand what you're saying, to me it doesn't sound lazy, rather, they're cool under pressure.

no spazzing out, kwim?;)

and i'd like to clarify that i have worked with awesome women.

i just don't find that the norm, however.

Yeah, once again blame women for what men do. I guess I had idiots for co workers. The point of my post was that really, you are pre judged based on gender, which is unfair. I mean, how do you think a post with "those that prefer to work with skinny nurses" or "those that prefer to work with green nurses" would be?

I personally would like to see where you found that men gossip more than women. I don't really see that myself... Now being more crude? I'll take that. It's comes with the territory (and by territory I mean guys) Sometimes people find that more amusing, while others find it downright appalling (I'm the former).

The crude nature is a norm for us. Have you ever listened to your bf or hubby talk to their friends when they don't know you're listening? Take note next time. It's just the way we are. It's how we're wired. It's how we have fun and deal with stress.

One idle observation that I've found is that many men won't ask for help (it was really REALLY hard for me to do), though many women have no problem with this. It's the ying and the yang, you gotta go with the flow. You just have to be content to be.

Erm :uhoh21: ...I didn't find the information anywhere. I said "In my personal experience" I have found men to gossip more than women. This is based on my experience in EMS, male dominated in my area.

And I said nothing about men being crude. I said, again in my experience, they "talk more crud", crud at the time seemed nicer than saying crap.

Hope that clears it up

i work with some great women, although that has not always been the case in the past.

there are only maybe 2 male nurses where i work now, a few male RTs, and a few male STNAs. they are all great. but so are the women.

perhaps my perspective has changed now that im older, but women are really great to work with in general.

as already said, there are always a few bad apples and those can be of any gender (if apples have genders, that is)

I'm surprised that no one mentioned the male nurses who try to get dates with other nurses.

Men gossip just as much as women. They just tend to do it with other men. People are people. *there's a song in there somewhere* Although I believe there are fundamental differences between men and women, the ability to be lazy, mean, gossip, or be incompetent is just not on that list that divides them.

It would be their preference...no shame in having one. That's why there are choices.

But opposed to the point you now bring up, we brought up our initial preference based on some "good" that we see in males, that we would prefer to work with. What relevance is working with skinny or green nurses? Except you cite it, I don't see it.

Well, after 16 years in many different environments I must agree with the OP. When I worked corrections with mainly male nurses and a male DON, there was crap and stress but NO DRAMA. Everyone came to get the work done. No my kid was sick so I'm late, my kid is sick so I need to leave, my bf dumped me and now I can't function, she thinks she's better than us 'cause she's getting married (wth?). And I don't need a lesson in gender expectations in the USA. I understand WHY men and women are different to work with, I just have a preference.
